Hi all,
this is my first post here, first of all sorry for my rusty english...
I'm looking for renting premises in my city to build my recording studio and I found this one:
http://maps.google.es/maps?hl=es&ll=37. ... ,7.14&z=21
As you can see it's located on the lower floor of an apartements building. It has a lower floor and a basement. It's about 84m2 (floor) and 104m2 (basement). In the basement I can see steel pillars and beams, concrete floor and ceiling made of light concrete vaults (is that right?).
I would build the recording studio in the basement, a friend of mine would rent lower floor for his production studio...
I can only see 3 problems here:
1- Maybe ceiling is not high enough, just 2.5 meters.
2- Ventilation and air conditioned may be difficult and expensive to install, there are no windows or access to outside, just the door that you can see in Google maps.
3- Pillar and beams make difficult to design a good rooms layout.
I've attached a sketchup scaled model of the place so you can see what I'm talking about...
My question is:
Is it worth renting this place (very cheap) and expending money (not cheap at all) isolating, aconditionating, etc,...?
Thank you for your time.
Should I build my studio here?

2.5m is not very high and depending on isolation needs, you could be losing 200-300mm of space between the ceiling and floor treatment. i would look for a place that is perhaps a bit more money to rent but has higher ceilings and easier to isolate.
That's what I thought... My last hope is the possibility to excavate 30 or 40 cms, at least in the main room... there're no pipes, or wiring under the floor... I'm still looking for other places to rent anyway. Thanks for your answer Glenn2.5m is not very high and depending on isolation needs, you could be losing 200-300mm of space between the ceiling and floor treatment
