If I use these clips on all my walls, but NOT my ceiling, will I still get some improvement in isolation? I understand it wont be as good as it could be, but surely you would have to still get some additional STC wouldn't you ? In this case there is no upper room , just 15ft of air to the ceiling, in this case tin of a metal garage.
Ceiling will be three Layers of 5/8 inch plywood or drywall with green glue inbetween one layer. Walls two layers of 5/8 inch drywall either side of single studs with GG on the inside layer
I need to know if I would be wasting money and just as importantly space by usIng clips on the walls only. My thinking is any reduction in vibration to the wooden studs surely has to make a some difference. Thanks !!
Whisper clips dilemma , do or don't do...

These clips decouple, and decoupling is a great thing. The walls you describe would be formidable, however not decoupling the ceiling would perhaps leave that surface vulnerable to low frequency flanking.
Might you be able to decouple the ceiling and use two layers of mass?
Hi Ted,
Decided I am going to use Auralex RC8 resilient channel on walls and ceiling. Maybe not as good as the clips and channel, but I will save critical width and height. I could now have finished dimensions of 10.3 ft W x 7.1ft H x 19.5 L. Not ideal , especially the height, but bearable. I think.
#1 that resilient channel is likely very similar to one you can buy at a local warehouse for 1/3 the cost.
#2 on its best day resilient channel is a poor performer.
#3 you really plan to hang all that weight on that channel? Here in the States, resilient channel isn't even a building product with a formal load test rating. There is no authoritative body that has rated its load carrying capacity, or is there a standard for its fabrication. In the States you could manufacture your own resilient channel any way you want as there is no standard.
In my opinion, this is a potentially catastrophic move. Better to use a solid building material such as code-rated Drywall Furring Channel placed at 24" spacing to increase the flex of the panels. This isn't decoupling but it also isn't dangerous.
Thanks Ted.
Well, they do state in on their website its good for 2 layers of 5/8 drywall , even on the ceiling. You would have reason to doubt this ?
Here is their blurb Ted. It is from a local site, but from what I read is their standard product description.
