Hello, my name is Mikiala Yardley,
My goal is to build a multi-purpose mixing/ recording room. I am a working musician who plays acoustic music, guitar, ukulele, bass and light percussion. I generally track my music, thus I have an apogee duet 2 as my interface and a macbook pro with LOGIC PRO 9. My speakers are a pair of Mackie MR8’s.
I am currently finishing my demo CD, and am ready to begin a full album recording. I have found it very difficult to mix in my current room. Therefore, I have sought the help of this forum as recommended by a friend.
GENERAL ROOM CHARACTERISTICS:
Please refer to the attached floor and elevation plans. I recently installed engineered oak flooring, 5/8” thickness. The walls are drywall, I’m not sure of the exact thickness. The ceiling is drywall with a textured finish. The windows are glass louvres. As you can see from the pictures, I have put up a velvet blanket, some studio foam, and carpet to try and “deaden the room”. After reading the John Sayers recording manual, I have realized that the low to mid frequencies are still problematic. The bass is still very “boomy” in this room.
My need for isolation is not paramount because I don’t play loud music, and the outside noise isn’t much. My goal is a balanced sounding room that would be suitable for mixing and tracking second. I am open to any and all suggestions/ advice, my budget is around $1000.
Aloha,
Mikiala
