Hi guys, I'm in the process of setting up a control room in the lounge room of my house so I can do more post work and editing from home, rather than driving the 10 minutes to my work to do it. At the moment I'm building some treatments for the room that hopefully you will be able to help me place. I have enough materials to build a further 10-20 treatments. As of yesterday afternoon I have built two 6" deep absorbers and two 3" absorbers. I have left the remaining material so as not to waste it building treatments you guys deem unfit. The absorbers I have constructed are earthwool 2.0 sound control mounted on a wooden frame with exposed sides wrapped in material as per the design on the first page of this subforum. Their dimensions are 1160x430mm with the depths as written above. According to the plan view I have provided below, the bottom right corner of the structure is where I intend to setup camp. The width of this wall here is 3300mm. The height of all spaces is 2400mm. The length of the room runs from this corner along the large glass sliding door which is 5000mm long. The total length of the room is 6900mm. The rear facing wall with the 3 small square windows is 4000mm wide.

I would prefer to setup my working space down on the wall that is 3300mm. I am aware of the 38% rule, and so have approximated that my initial ideal listening position should be approx 2800mm from this wall, which will put the sliding door (usually covered with a thick curtain) about 1600mm to my right and several meters of open space leading to my kitchen on the left. I have two couches about 1800mm long at my disposal that I intend to put along the wall with the 3 windows and the wall that separates this wall from the front door and keep my television down there. I have event opals that are mounted on stands that will be placed away from the wall facing down along the length of the room. My desk is a small profile one simply for my trackball and keyboard. I intend to put my screens on a small desk in line or behind the the front face of the monitors so as to avoid any extra reflections. If you don't believe this to be a problem I could always get an all in one solution, such as the carillion producer station (http://www.musiclab.com.au/product-info ... er-station) for quite cheap and just have the one desk. I intend to either buy an angled rack to be placed down off to my side, or build one as all the ones I have found locally thus far are cheap metal framed ones. In this next picture you can see the wall I will be setting up on to the right through the glass sliding door.

I'll also include the sketchup file for you guys to have a tinker with if you have the spare time or inclination. Please take note that the model is approximately to scale. The measurements are as: Height is always 2400mm Length of wall with glass sliding door 6900mm Sliding door length 5000mm Width of wall at right of sliding door as viewed from the picture just above 3300mm Width of wall at left of sliding door as viewed from the picture above 4000mm Width of room from sliding door to kitchen bench top is approx 5000mm and past that to kitchen wall is approx 7500mm The length of the small wall to the left of the intended mix position is 1000mm The length of the wall separating the facing wall with 3 windows and the front door is 1445mm Please let me know if my dimensions have been confusing and I will clarify. I just started using sketchup about an hour ago so my skill-set isn't quite up there with labeling and making everything to scale. I appreciate your time and look forward to your suggestions. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6361630/Home%20Studio.skp
Anyone?
Hi "amarshism". Welcome! One of the reasons you might not be getting replies, is that you aren't following the forum rules on posting photos and images! Please take a look at those rules again... :) Anyway:

sounds like they should work fine. Your basic plan for layout seems fine, but it would be good if you could indicate that on your SKP file, showing the positions of the desk, speakers, etc. To me it seems that you will have a symmetry problem, as you'll have that large glass sliding door on your right and empty space on your left. Room symmetry is very important for the front half of the room, so you need a solid, hard, acoustically reflective surface the same distance to your left as the window is to your right. But I'm not sure what your question is! Do you just need guidance with where to put your treatment? - Stuart -
