hello everyone, im designing my studio and im not sure if i should have carpet floors or wooden floor boards. I will be recording drums and guitars in the main recording room, and i will have a vocals room. Now should i make the vocals booth dead or live (carpet or floorboards?) The main recording room (carpet or florboards?) The rooms aernt very big and im a little confused on what to put on the floor as it is concrete. Im not sure which flooring would sound better in terms of recording. Could someone please give me their opion on which room (dead/live) sounds better when recording. Thank you.
The recommended suggestion is a live floor dead ceiling. Concrete floor is just fine, so is a wood floor. It is best to avoid a carpeted floor. Bryan Giles
thank you but what about in the vocal booth? does the same advise apply?
I prefer carpet in a vocal booth provided you balance out the response with low, low-mid absorption using high frequency reflective/diffusive units. i.e. slots or panel absorbers. In a vox booth you are looking for a very short verbtime as opposed to a live studio area. cheers john
