Hello everyone. Complete noob here. I thought carpet was the best way to go for studios until i did a little research online. WHich is how I found you wonderful people ;) I am a guitar teacher, I teach out of my home, plus I do some recordings. The recordings are not like a full time thing or anything, and its mainly my parts, guitar/bass that I do. Basically tracking my instruments, I can do any work I may get right from home. I also create loop packs of guitar and bass things etc, etc. So my studio I am making needs to be best for these things. Occasionally I mix down full band sets from the Prayer room that I am involved in. But I am looking to optimize for mainly guitar recording. Also an overall easy on the ears atmosphere, as some days some students noises ;) can be a bit apprehensive. Eventually maybe I would like to be able to track full bands if the opportunity arises though.
About the room I am making into the studio/classroom. We are in the process of buying the house, so I dont have pics to post yet, I will snap some Tuesday at the inspection though. I really need to plan this out though because we are cutting it tight, we want to be in in 2 weeks after closing, so I need my ducks in a row. It has a disgusting carpet in it now, I automatically thought carpet was the best so I did everything BUT order the carpet and schedule the installation. Its a 16'x11' x8' room, its got a bathroom on the far wall. 2 walls are exterior walls, one wall connects to rest of house and the other wall has the bathroom on it, the bathroom goes to the exterior wall I think. The first ext wall is the front of house, it has a nice large window, the next wall, also ext runs the length of room has a door and 2 big windows, the next wall has the bathroom connected to it, and the other wall (length of room) is an interior wall that connects to the living room/rest of house and has a door to the house on it. It was a garage that has been converted to living space. The ceiling is dry wall-txtured-painted as is the norm down here in Florida.
I hope I explained everything good and that my expectations/vision is clear? I am looking to spend say $1500.oo USD and this number may go up, or down, depending on how the inspection goes on Tuesday. I really need to get the situation with the flooring squared away first and for most before I move my gear in.
thanks

Hi,
I think you are going to have to do some research and reading regarding what you actually want before people can offer you advise.
Do you need isolation from the rest of the house?
Are you willing to tear out all the existing walls and ceiling to make a better room?
Do you want a separate control room?
Or do you not care about isolation and only want to acoustically treat the room you have?
The standard flooring used is something hard.
Bare cement, laminate, hardwood.
But before deciding on flooring, figure out what you want.
