Hi guys
Firstly, hugely useful forum… Many thanks.
I was hoping to get your advice on a build I’d like to commence in the next 3 weeks.
Location: London, UK
Build: 1 live room + 1 control room
Area: 8m (L) x 4m (W) x 4m (H)
Surrounding structure: Brick (1 layer of Breeze blocks - 44 x 22 x 22cm)
Proposed soundproofing type: Room within a room
I have attached 2 illustrations.
Arial View - should give you an idea of the space and surrounding areas. As you’ll see, on the window side there is a main road with traffic and train noise near by and on the other is the main access door and corridor. We are surrounded by other units. We would like to do our very best prevent sound getting into / out of our rooms to these surrounding areas.
Arial Layout - This one shows a proposed layout. I’d like to give the live room as much space as possible whilst also keeping the control big enough for mixing in.
My questions:
1. Does my control room look big enough to mix in without too many issues?
2. How high would you recommend making the ceilings of the two rooms? I'd like to get a nice “live" drum sound if possible.
3. Any other critiques or suggestions at all would be much appreciated. If my design is no good, please feel free to assume this is a blank space and we can partition the room as needed provided we stay within the absolute dimensions (mentioned above).
Many thanks again!
Charlie
