I'm installing a Toshiba Eco 12000 BTU split system in my simple one room studio. The external condenser unit instructions say that the back of the unit must be 60cm or more from the building. That's a lot more than I had envisaged! Can anyone tell me if this is over the top or are there real considerations like heat dissipation that account for such a distance requirement? My external wall finish is oak weatherboarding so if heat is an issue I'm happy to stick to the 60cm :) Don't want my pride and joy going up in flames
Sir, do what the engineers recommend. Do not ask a bunch of people on a forum if they can out smart the people that know their product. It is bad form. Man says you need 40 pounds of air pressure in your tires then put 40 psi in your tires, simple as that.
Brien, You see, that's where you and I differ; I question everything :horse:  However, as a general rule what you say is quite correct. The documentation is misleading; the recommendation is actually 30cm; the 60cm distance relates to a situation where you build a canopy over the top of the condenser. :)
It isn't misleading, and you and I do not differ. It is two placements for two entirely different things. That is why we do not have a difference of opinion, I do this stuff all day long and have to trust what I read, and that assume I understand the scenario...which I more than often do.
I'd love to live in your world for a little time! In mine I have loads of shades of grey and when I read things that I don't feel right, I challenge them. And if I didn't I wouldn't know that the info on page whatever of the data was ambiguous and therefore misleading. I should get a job checking instruction manuals - that way, they'd be a lot more idiot proof
Son I am a professional...your...what are you?
I can see this getting ugly because you think more of your self then I might. I will support you, but you had better be good...if you are just being obtuse, then your days are numbered. We can agree on this I would think. Your shades of gray is the way I finish jobs...that shit does not scare me. I deal with people, those are my shades of gray, and my job is to make the gray become sunshine...you might want to look into that aspect of people, they can be easy to deal with :)
Brien, I'm very good and so are you and you definitely bring the sunshine of your professional experience into all our lives here  Its been a long, long time since someone referred to me as "son" and being referred to thus definitely bought some sunshine back into my life for a moment:wink:
That is what I do...bring sunshine...mostly covered in a cloudy day...but sunshine none the less :)
