Hello, we are in process of remodeling the studio and I wanted to get some help... so far there is nothing in stone just empty rooms, inside a huge building, all ceilings are 13ft tall and walls all in drywall... I was hoping for some creative peps to give me some ideas...so what would you do with this space (Sketch attached)???? The only requirements: Must have 2 edit bays, meaning at least two separate working spaces for different projects, one with a tracking room, and you CANT use the pink room at all.. so lets see what you guys can come up with... ohh before I forget..our console is pretty big 10 feet long by 4 feet wide. besides that go nuts...

Help anyone...BUMP....
Hi there "vegas4ever". Welcome! I guess your post fell through the cracks, so to speak. Thanks for bumping it! You seem to have a reasonable sized space, but your goals and specs are rather vague, to say the least! Maybe that's why nobody even tried to come up with something. The other issue is that this forum is more of a "self-help" place, where folks learn the basics of studio design themselves, post their attempts at designing something, and ask for suggestions on how to improve it. This isn't really the place for saying: "I have this empty room: design my studio for me, for free!" Some of the members here make a living out of designing studios, and while they are totally willing to help someone who is trying to learn, and making a valiant attempt to do it themselves, they aren't too keen on handing out freebies for folks who can't (or don't want to) do at least some of the work themselves. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to get directly involved in the design! Some folks need to build fast, and don't have enough time to learn all that needs to be learned (and there is a LOT that needs to be learned!). Others don't have the skills or background knowledge needed. Others just don't want to, for whatever reason. And all of that is fine! If that's the case, for people who just can't do any of it themselves, it is best to just contact John directly, and ask him for a quote for designing your studio. If John is too busy, or can't take on your job for whatever reason, then contact one of the others by PM, and ask for a quote. But it's unlikely that someone is going to do the whole design for free! On the other hand, if you do decide to do most of it yourself, then you'll find that the folks here are more than willing to help out with suggestions, comments and information. There are some very helpful, very knowledgeable people around here! So if you want to take that path, then add some basic layout ideas to your SketchUp model, and see what kinds of comments you get. But you'll also need to provide a LOT more information on your goals, plans, needs, budget, restrictions, and the available space! There really isn't enough to go on, with what you posted about it so far. - Stuart -

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I know I was a little vague on my description, but we are remodeling the studio from a regular extra room to a somewhat "studio looking" rooms. Like always budget is king and we are trying to save money by doing it all ourselves -- the studio has a 3-purpose use, 1-this space is our main recording space (we do 4 records a year), 2-we use this room for voice overs, book reading and over all small "church audio needs", 3-we use this room to broadcast our weekly and bi-weekly services. We have some problems we def need help with, for the green room (28ft x 18ft) the pink door and walk lead to a office hallway so noise is a issue! also we dont have a place to record drums... let me explain that better, in our current set up Im in the same room as the drummer (green room) or any instrument I track for that matter, which makes playbacks and trying to hear recording levels a nightmare... My solution was to put a wall (model below ) and split the room, also to help with noise for voice overs and audio books recordings I was planning for a iso boot (model below).... Ok if someone is still awake... part of our goal it to build some bays to be able to teach instrument as well as to be able to do small sessions like voice overs or simple 2 instrument sessions (no drums or anything, for this I thought of cutting the blue rooms (18ft x10ft) in two (model below), so if you follow along please let me know if this is enough info, oh and btw I do know a lot of you guys work doing this and believe me if this was for a "for profit" organization I would love give a little $$$ love, but I promise I would get paid the same amount as you guys (nada). If you can help, suggest, or modify my plans I would really appreciated!!! Sketch is hard to work with...I could not finish the additional walls so I hope you bet the "picture" with the description....

the sketch i provided assumed 2 rooms pretty well isolated from each other and the other spaces. if you wanted to make one a live room for drum recording it would be feasible and certainly more isolation than gobos. from a cost perspective - 2x4 and drywall, R19 insulation, a small pair of windows between rooms if desired, and 2 exterior grade doors w/ seals. room treatments would be 2'x4' absorbers - span corners, first reflection points, scattered on ceiling and walls. additional absorption later.
i'll try to look at your latest sketch later but i'm without power at the moment...
