monitor position

i have a pair of event tr-8 and in the specs it says its is okay to have them against a wall since the bass ports are on the front side. just wondering if this is true or if my sound is being affected, dont really have an extra foot to put between the speakers and wall. currently i only have about 2-3 inches. thanks for any help
