Hi Guys and John Thanks for a great forum for studio design. The best BY FAR. Anyway. We are just about to purchase a commercial loft apartment in Cape Town, South Africa. I have attached an image of the layout of the space. The space is on the top floor (all concrete flooring and walling throughout). As you can see the space and the pre-existing partitions lend itself very nicely for the commercial facility for band recording, post production etc... The first space as you walk in is perfect reception and then through the double doors you get into the "big" area (the partition between the "lounge" and the "bedroom" is dry wall which we are just going to demolish to create one area we can build in for the live room, control room and one booth (vocals/drums -size?). That would be phase 1 to get started. On the right hand side of reception through the existing door there is a kitchen and a room off it which would probably just be a gathering/relax area with great views of Table Mountain. To the right of that is another big room partitioned with drywall to make seperate bedrooms. We are thinking about removing the partition and creating a full sound to picture editing suite/post production studio. We don't want to be too drastic in what we demolish (i.e brickwork needs to fundamentally remain) as in the future we might need to move the premises ( hopefully in a quite a few years) and we would probably re-instate the apartment living vibe as the building is of the mixed-use variety. I have a reasonable understanding on soundproofing techniques and acoustics but would love just a start on phase 1 which is the big area through the double doors. The first thing I would like to add is a door opposite the double door almost creating a natural soundlock. We would love to get some feedback onthe space and see how we can effectively use what we have to the best potential the space has to offer. Thanks guys.

Hi After posting the first write up and pic I read up on the rules. Apologise for the information that was lacking before hand. Please see the new sketchup with a draft proposal of the seperations and dimensions etc... The current ceiling is false which is about 3000mm affl but there is about another 500mm of void which is useable because we will rip the ceilngs out of the space we are building the studio. Please let me know how my draft looks. Thanks again.

There's still one item missing! :) The most important one... the one in big blue letters.... viewtopic.php?t=3231 :) Regarding the layout: I'm assuming the CR is the room on the left, LR on the right? - Stuart -
Hi Stuart Apologies once again. I have updated my profile with location - Cape Town, South Africa You are correct - Control Room on left and Live Room (+ iso booths) on right. Many thanks Brett
