Hello People,
first of all thanks to John etc. for this fine site and to you all for your knowledge and comments to share.
I'm Bart from Belgium (there are probably more ... :) ) and I play in a band and do some live sound engineering.
Right now I'm building my house and it would be nice to have a rehearsal/recoding studio in my house. The purpose is to practice the drums anytime I want without disturbing the rest of my family (I play with earplugs and along with some tracks at a respectable volume). Second purpose is to record my band rehearsals or other bands. So there has to be a nice control room aswell.
I've attached a .pdf file witch contains the measurments and a description of the materials used for the basement (the ceiling hight from concrete to concrete is 2,85m (9.35ft)). The red wall between room A & B can be changed (adding doors/windows). I want to make room A the rehearsal/studio room because it's the biggest and a whole band needs to fit in there. I need some live/dead area in there? (for rehearsals I don't care about this). Room B will contain the CR and vocal/iso booth (and some technical space).
I've made some drawings (which are more or less to scale (<5 cm)):
plan 01: symmetric CR, separate technical space (pc etc.), but expensive/acoustic difficult sliding doors
plan 02: no sliding doors, but CR is not symmetrically and I don't know how to properly enter the CR without disturbing the symmetry even more.
plan 03: nice big CR but the technical space is difficult to reach. But this one has my preference. It has also the best view on the studio.
Anybody suggestions and/or remarks? Did I oversee something?

Well done - itlooks like a tossup between 1 and 3. 3 gives a slightly bigger control room so I'd probably go with it but have glass doors into the vox booth between the speakers so you don't have to walk all the way around to get there.

Thanks for your reply John.
Number three will be it. The sliding doors in the front of the CR will make it also easier to access my tech space (amps, pc,...) and for vocals I don't need that extra soundproofing (regarding to two fixed windows). I was wondering if the window from CR to studio will disturb the acoustic symmetry of the CR. Do I have to put some hardboard or something reflective with the same size as the window on the opposite wall?
regards,
Bart
Bart - I'd assume you are having a bright reflective wall opposite the glass (at an angle of course) so the two walls will balance out.

Ok, thanks John.
Now I can finish my basement first and my house. When I am that far I will start constructing the studio. I'll probably be back by then with some questions/pictures.
cheers,
Bart
