Hi
I´ve been reading this forum for months, and now that I finally got my own space for a studio, I need a bit help on designing it. I have my own building with brick-mineral wool-brick walls, no problems with neighbors getting annoyed.
However, it's an old shop with a huge window on one side facing a parking space. It's hard to say how thick it is, but it keeps noise suprisingly well. I thought I'd build a gypsum board-glass wool-gypsum board wall with steel studs, but it would be a three leaf wall, right? So if thats bad,, what should I do?
Another dilemma is about control room. I have two alternatives, what do you guys think about them?
The control room is the one with a wooden floor, dark gray floor is the studio. The space is 3.5 meter high, but the light blue block in the middle is a concrete supporting the roof, and it comes down 1.1 meters so it's 2.4 meters from the floor.
Light gray, red and white floors are social rooms with 2.4 m height and light blue space up left is just storage.
I found it a bit hard to get into SketchUp, and I made some mistakes I'll fix them up, but until then, please ignore millimeters and the smaller units whatever they are called... Micrometers?
The control room studio B is supposed to be symmetrical, I just couldn't make right, but I'm working on it.
Also ideas about acoustic is more than welcome. I will record all kind stuff from metal to acoustic music. Later I'll build an iso room somewhere, haven't really thoght of it yet. I have walls on wheels anyway.

Where is this wall going to be? In the current configuration, it is a coupled wall assembly (hard boundary/air/hard boundary on the same frame).
What makes it a 3 leaf in your opinion?
Sorry for being imprecise, I meant the wall against the window, so the window would be the third leaf"I thought I'd build a gypsum board-glass wool-gypsum board wall with steel studs, but it would be a three leaf wall, right? If you think you're gonna end up with 3-leaf walls, revise your plans. Add the extra planned mass directly to the existing wall instead.
The only window I see on yer plot is in the booth, it that the one ye worried about? (prolly not, but counld't discover any other window). Keep on improving your sketch-up skills, the program is easy to understand and you'll be sketching in no-time!
you know when you've been tango'd :)
If the window is the supposed transmission loss leader...then you should plug the window, rather than build a wall in front of it...but we still need more details, maybe real pictures, to get on the same page with you. I hope you understand I'm just trying to help...least thing I want to be is "tango'd :)Sorry for being imprecise, I meant the wall against the window, so the window would be the third leaf"I thought I'd build a gypsum board-glass wool-gypsum board wall with steel studs, but it would be a three leaf wall, right? Now there's the window on its place on the scetch. I'll take a photo tomorrow. I'm not sure if i'm allowed to remove the window, but i'll ask. (I'm on rent). What about if i put two layers of gypsum board right next to the window? Maybe some thick cloth (or what's the word..? Felt?) between the window and gypsum? And then another wall of glass wool and two layers of gypsum on 66x40mm steel studs?
I moved the control room to another corner, because there are raditors next to the window, and it wouldn't have been wise to move them the way i first thought. And anyway i like more in its new place. What do you think of the measures?
