Hi folks, Attached is a plan and section of a building that I am about to convert into a studio. I want to be able to record vocals and the normal range of instruments. I am unsure of what sizes to give to the room's and how many areas to have. Can any one help? Cheers, Joe

Look at the plans on the recording manual section from the main page. There should be enough there to give you some ideas to start with.
From your drawing I can't tell your measurements feet? meters?. and only one door? is this an existing room or a proposed one? if possible have separate doors for mix and drum room. Its important to give your mix room generous space to get a good sound. after all this will make or break your recording success. A drum/vocal room large enough to comfortably hold a set of drums and if you don't have the room, double as a vocal room after dismantling the drums, would be second in priority. depending on what kind of music you plan to record and if it is live playing or sample based, you still need the best mixroom you can build.

Hey guys, thanks for the replys. I ve done a litlle plan based on the SAE. All dimensions are in cm. I write alot of electronic music, but also collaborate with vocalists, gituar, keyboard and bass players. So far no drummers, but they are definitly a posssibility... The offset degrees on the drawing are the same on both sides of the room. Any comments on the plan would be great  Cheers, Joe

Looks like you're going for a Hidley type room. live mix/ dead rear. Is this the way you like it? I take it you're using sliding glass doors. Be careful not to get your ear position too close to the rear, meaning in the middle of the room or further back to the rear. Get the golden ratio going where you're 2/3 away from your couch's back wall. Again, give your mix room enough room to work. If you could possibly put another door for your tracking room, you'd be better able to isolate mix and tracking, if you have the budget, plus you'd have an easier time getting equipment in and out of the drum room without scraping by your mixer, if its a problem or be bothered while mixing by musicians hanging around. Depending on the quality of your glass doors, be aware that the two glass doors might drum head with eachother or with themselves, if you got a loud drummer or bass player in there.
