Hey guys, I have a Sun room attached to my house. its 14.5' x 19.5'. I would like to have 2 rooms, a live and a control room if possible. we will wall it in but would like ideas on design etc... Ill post up a MSPaint just to give you an idea of what im looking at. I would like 2 rooms because we will be spending alot of time in here recording/writing, so we want the control room to do it in. right now my studio is in a 10' x 10' bedroom, but we also reherse in there and its too hard to record and rehearse in a 10x10 room.

- Location: Houston, Tx - notes: The whole room is made of tin, so i will be building a room in a room. - Monitoring levels & neighbor disturbance levels: I want to try to make it decently sound "proof" because there are houses around me. - Goal: A good comfortable place for my band to record and write songs. i would like to record other artists/bands in the future. - Ceiling height: 7.7' foot - Budget: around $500-700 to build the room. - DIY: Yes, me and my band will do everything. - What were tracking: We record everything live, Drums, Guitars, Piano, Bass, Vox, and Violin. Thanks!!!!
I thought the whole reason of calling it a sunroom was due to the windows involved. Your saying this is an all tin room? The room in a room you want will require you to add additional mass to the exterior part of the structure since the tin has no ability to stop much sound at all. "its 14.5' x 19.5'." Sound is 3D in nature...we have to take into account the height, if you would be so kind.
It's 7.7 feet tall from the concrete to the ceiling.
one idea - build the minimal sets of walls. the ceiling will be tough - but likely you need a ceiling framed on the side walls and the brick walls - inside out ceiling so you can use that space for absorption.

Thank you soo much! Could you do a 3d sketchup of this? My dad loved the design and we are starting cleaning out the room this weekend. -Austin
may be this approach will work? before starting any work, check with a structural engineer on the actual framing - in this very rough sketchup example the ceiling should be about 7' with a 2x6 joist 16 oc for inside out ceiling + support for ceiling clouds. you'll need to consider the heat and moisture. also, the HVAC and fresh air exchange.

Thanks so much! I'll show my dad and see what he thinks.
remember it's critical to consider the proper structural details and ensure proper ventilation on the ceiling side assuming the ceiling is a roof.
