Hi, this is my first post to the site so ya'll might have to bear with me a little!! I am converting the first storey of an existing out building. The dimensions (internal) are 7.5m x 3.3m with a decreasing ceiling height on the short axis from 1.92m to 1.86m. The attached PDF contains full plan plus section. All external walls are 200mm cavity block with no finishing. both floor and ceiling are exposed joists, floor 230mm deep, ceiling 150mm. The roof is ply covered with felt. The idea so far is to go with a control room and combined vocal/live room. I write alot of music so the control is also a composition room. I need access for 3 main keyboards. Desk is Mackie 16/4. Monitors most likely to be Mackie 824's. I have low passing noise, the nearest road is about 120m and house is 50m away. The garage 2 setup on SAE looks to be the most practical so far. Any other suggestions are welcome. There is only one door, this is fixed. I have a good cheap supply of armaflex, rigid fiberboard available from 100 up 400mm. I was thinking of cutting it to size and filling in-between the joists (150mm), its self adhesive so very handy. I is also going to be applied to walls in slot resonators or as bass traps. The wall construction separating the rooms is to be back to back one sided plasterboard with 100mm insulation on both and a starting gap of 100mm. Walls will be at angles to each other with two glass doors double glazed 25mm and 20mm. I was thinking of having the wide side of the gap over the small Hole in the wall on the right hand side to allow for some sort of ventilation intake. So the problems, that I can see anyway!! First as I'm sure you noticed is the ceiling height. I am using the first floor as there is soil against the lower section and this is causing some issues with damp on the ground floor. Will filling between the joists be enough absorption or will I need another layer of fiberboard onto the joists. Is this treatment suitable for both rooms? Is the slant in the room a positive or negative considering it is going over the short axis? The dimensions of the two rooms? Any rough plan would be really appreciated. Would the ventilation intake cause problems in-between the two separating walls? Finally I would just like to say thanks to John, Steve and Thomas for the effort that they put into the site. And all the posts I have read over the last month or so that have helped me get to here. Cheers, Joe

yeah - looks like a garage plan to me - I'm a bit confused by the section A-A so you are on the upper floor?? Looks like a very low ceiling - I'd bump my head as I'm over 6ft ;) BTW 25mm and 20mm glass for the doors is a bit of overkill and I doubt that silder would slide with that much weight. 12 and 10mm would be more appropriate. You need to work out how much of the 7m becomes control room and how much for the booth. I'd tend to share it as 5m for control and 2m for booth. cheers john
cheers John for gettin back, I am on the first floor, the room under is a store room but I cant use it for the studio. So I have to make the best of the circumstances at hand. Attached is a trial plan :) Will this be ok with the sloping ceiling? Cheers, joe [/u]

Yeah - that's it - the ceiling is so low that you'll just have to wipe it out with a heavy layer of insulation. BTW when it's that low it's best to cover it with a black (dark) cloth so it diassappears to the eye. cheers john
