I am converting a bedroom into a studio. It is in a brick house. But is by a major airport, so i need to elminate aircraft noise. I am muscian and not a contractor so my knowledge of construction is limited. Room measures 115 inches by 178 inches. It is not completely rectangular as there is a 51 s 24 inch closet with paneled doors in the front in the room. There is also a small (5 inch) identation at one point in the room near the entry door. The ceiling is not flat. At one point it is 95 inches from the floor that goes 64 inches across. The part of the ceiling is 107 inches from the floor. The ceiling angles up for 15 inches to get to the two different ceiling heights and at the rear of the room. There are two windows in the room. They measure 40 by 50 inches. The floor is maple hardwood and the room is one the second floor. It is just one pane of glass and a screen. I own so I can construct. The room is used to track vocals, electric guitar and acoustic guitar (hard rock music mostly) and for mixing. Right now I have portable panels and small foam bass traps in the corners. It sounds pretty good for a bedroom, but I still have the problem of outside noise. Forget about drums -- don't have the space. Questions: What should I do to the the walls, ceilings and windows? If I build a floating ceiling, is this difficult because of the odd shape of the ceiling? Should double walls and floating ceilings also be in the closet? Thanks, and great web site.
