Hey, I'm new around here and am amazed at how much information i have absorbed after only 2 days of lurking this forums, it's intense how much goes on here! anyways, I am soon to be starting construction of my studio and hope to pull it off myself. if not i will hire someone... but i was wondering, as i am building the 2 main rooms from scratch, in a big shed/warehouse type setting, is there a 'magical' ratio to a good sounding room? i have to work within 4m (w) x 5m (l) x 2.7m (h) or close too. (meaning i have about a foot give or take.) i know perfect squares are bad, but would the 5 x 4 be enough of a difference? anyway, main point is, is there a general ratio to success in a rooms dimensions? thanks all and i will the sticking around here for sure!
welcome! please update your profile to include your location. also, please take time to read the "Read-me before posting" sticky and provide the details. yes, room ratios have a place in the overall process of designing your studio but you also need to consider the volume - once you get very small, room ratios are much less helpful. so if you think about it, dividing a 4m x 5m room into 2, you end up with 2,5m x 4m x 2,7m which is not good because you're nearly square on ceiling and width. cut another way, 2m wide would not be fun... but maybe a decent control room and small vox booth are reasonable and possible.
