Hi I'm Kim, 28 years old from Norway. I just found this site and is overwhelmed by all the information :) But after a couple of days of intense reading and learning, I finally feel like my plan is starting to get a little clearer. I found out after meeting you guys that my original plan was flawed :) So my starting point was a green lawn. I have been doing some work and I will soon be ready to order a truckload of concrete. The dimensions of the concrete floor will be: 10.20m x 5.20m x 0.15m The height of the studio will be 2.70m. So it will be a 53m2 building with a studio on ground floor and a storage upstairs. But first I need to design/plan this studio. A sketch-up file is attached The studio will contain a Control room and a Live/Rehearsal room It will be a 2 leaf, room-in-room design. with a inner frame (2"x4") and outer frame (2"x4") So it's going to be a rehearsel room for the 5-piece metal band i'm in, so I want it to be as "soundproof" as I can get it. we want to have the opportunity to play whenever we like, day or night. The budget: 30.000USD maybe a little more But the first step is the concrete floor. Look at my drawing. Electricity is brought in under the concrete floor and straight up into the CR and the LR in two separate tubes. and I have 2 pvc tubes going from CR to LR also under the concrete or maybe I will just put it in the concrete. I'm considering separating the floor so there will be a gap in the concrete between the 2 leafs. What do you think?

overall a nice size - would you be bringing equipment in and out frequently? if so, you might consider a separate air lock and doors for the live room. you could also angle the walls between the CR and live room if desired. you might consider 2x6 instead of 2x4 for the walls to support the inner isolation ceiling and exterior roof. since this is related to your construction thread - maybe keep posting there - presumably you have worked with your local building officials and contractors to properly design the concrete floor - footings, etc to support the walls and related mass. are you considering splitting the concrete floor between the live room and control room?
Hi Thanks for the reply Glenn :) We will be moving equipment in and out but i'm trying to keep the number of doors down. When I get the inner frame up, I will probably move the window and make the door between the LR and CR wider so it will get easier to get through. Since i'm making the window and doors myself it's easy to change dimensions :) How much of an angle? Should all the walls have a slight angle? Yes, I have room in my plans for 2x6 if 2x4 is not enough. The drummer in the band is a carpenter so he's going to help me with this stuff. I have decided on isolating the floor between the CR and LR and the outer walls. I figured if i'm going to get the best result, then i have to do all that i can from the start :) Can I fill the gap with anything? Should I use pvc tubes(for xlr-cables) from CR to LR under the floor or should I just put them in the walls?
i would make the dividing wall on 15 degrees and a front wall in the CR @ 7.5 degrees. this will form a 7.5 degree set of angles in the CR. if you can also make the isolation ceiling heights 4m, you then create a false ceiling in the CR for treatment and have plenty of space in the live room.
I tried to draw the angles in sketch-up, but it seemed a little too much. Maybe I didn't understand it. Can you make me a simple sketch? The false ceiling is that like a cloud? only it covers the whole ceiling? Is that instead of the inner leaf ceiling? or under det inner leaf ceiling?
something like this
