Hi all,
I've been lurking for a couple weeks and have read very many existing posts,
but I can't seem to get a grip on what to do with the space I've got. I am
using the space as a studio currently, but it's not proper at all- no walls no
iso booth, and I'm in a basement that regularly gets some water. (will float floor).
I also am doing this on the cheap. I'm getting OK results as is, but I have
too much ambient noise for mic recording and I need to start doing this
soonish. Also, when I start mixing I will need a better environment.
Here is my scenario:
I am recording ambient/new age music with spoken words.
Lowish ceiling with exposed rafters and runs of steam pipes, gas pipes and electrical.
Willing / wanting to do this in stages (iso booth first priority).
Strong preference to have iso booth window in front of recording desk.
Need a small space for storing excess gear.
If anyone has any thoughts on how best to carve up this space, I will be most appreciative.
If I have not supplied sufficient info, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Feakishly peculiar space

Some additional info:
This is intended to be commercial, but not for hire. My company will be using
it soley for creating and recording compositions that are a therapist talking
over "relaxation" type music. We will record both the music and
the speech here. No drum kits, but perhaps hand percussion.
After thinking on the above diagram a little more, I am considering putting a
skewed "corner control room" type station in the lower half with a vocal
booth in the upper/middle and a storage room/airlock at the top.
I'm just not sure if it is the most practical use of this space. Any guidance?
Thanks,
Tut
Tut - it's a really small space with only two real options for a control room area.
here's one of them

John, Thank you so much for taking the time to offer that design.:D
You said there were 2 possible designs. I wonder if the other might look
similar to the idea I came up with. Here is a poor rendering of it. Most of the
alterations from my first diagram are obviously freehand. I am notoriously
bad at math, so I am sure my angles are a bit off, (the control room is supposed to be symetrical :!: ) but I hope they are near
enough to put across what I am getting at.
What are your thoughts/criticisms of this?
Thanks in advance, and again.

Yes that would work. ;)
