Hello,
My Recording teacher, Bruce Tambling, owns a studio that has a second control room which he is currently unhappy with. Once upon a time he had someone come in and do an acoustics design which consisted of very small and ineffective absorption and trapping. He has asked me to help him bring it up to a level that he can confidently mix in it with. He is interested in consulting with John as well to make sure the design is correct and making best use of the space, and is willing to pay for his services, (preferably at an hourly rate). We have emailed John but did not receive any response, probably because he is busy. The budget is not certain but there is definitely around 1500-2000 dollars for materials (which should pay for the thermafiber (we have a pretty good deal on it of $165 for 3.5 in 24"x 48" semirigid blankets), plywood, and miscellaneous fabric, plastic, and hardware)
Bruce's request for the design is for it to be modular so that when he changes spaces he can use this to begin treating a new space. Because of this I believe that broadband absorption should be used for the most part, as different spaces will have different problems and tuned panel absorbers would address the problems of this specific space (however I could be wrong about this and am open to understanding why). I showed him John's "Components" design, since the room in that design is very similar to Bruce's and the only thing he did not like in it was the soffits because he plans on upgrading from Genelec's to Focal SM9's and these speakers are definitely not similar in shape or size. Also the SM9's use a passive sub instead of a port and the passive sub is on the speaker top which I believe makes them Unsoffitable (but I may be wrong) :?: Below is a picture of them:

Here is the design done by the person Bruce had hired "once upon a time" to treat the room: (Both myself and Bruce believe it sounds Boomy among other problems)

Given Bruce's Requests for a modular design that is usable in future spaces I have made an initial design based heavily on John's "Components" design which is shown in the pictures below:

This may be a little overkill, and I am willing to revise a lot. Again these are my initial thoughts. Things like absorber placement will most likely change based on room EQ tests, etc.
So far my questions are:
Is there too much bass trapping in my design?
Are my front broadband absorbers too thick at 7" of thermfiber (similar to roxul AFB)?
Are the Resonators useful? I believe they are so there aren't parallel walls on the sides of the mix position, thats why I thought John did it in the "components" design, am I correct in this assumption?
Are the hardbacked clouds here good or do they need to change? (They are 7" thick with a 3/4" ply + 3/4" MDF)
Am I missing anything such as maybe a way to use panel absorbers that will also work in future spaces?
I was looking at RPG and I saw these "Modex Corner" bass traps that look to be essentially tuned panel absorber fit to a corner. I was wondering if this design might be better at absorbing bass, and keeping high frequencies alive? Below is a link to the info on them:

Finally, Is there a better way to get ahold of John Sayers other than his listed email (I live in the states so phone might be pricey)?
Finally Thank you all in advance for any and all help, and thank you John for the awesome resource this site is! :D
