Hi All,
I have designed this Modular Isolation Booth for my garage and was after some feedback on wheather or not it would reduce the noise enough to meet my requirements before I start constructing it. Any idea's that would improve the sound leakage, but wouldn't affect the overall design to much, would be greatly appreciated.
The booth would only ever really be used for Guitar & Vocals at a moderate volume with the occasional louder levels at times. I really just don't won't to disturb the neighbors if possible.
I've made it modular only because I want to be able to take it with me when I move houses. The booth would be made mostly of MDF, reason being that I work in the cabinetry industry so it is alot easier for me to work with & it's nice & rigid. Windows are going to be 2x 6mm glass with a 25mm air space between & the door will be sealed with rubber trims. There will be 2x baffle boxes @ the rear for fresh air as well as an LED light within. I'm not to concerned about acoustics at this stage.
Dimensions - 2200h x 1800w x 1800l
Here are my design ideas.

Most of the construction is made from MDF, I think you'd be better of getting 4x9cm framing instead of 25mm MDF.
And next to that, possible gypsum instead of mdf?
Use OSB construction board for the floor, need to get the water resistent type, with MDF you will run into moist problems probally.
Keep the pieces small, since they will probally be heavy, and you have seals in your drawning which is good, make sure they seal properly.
There are probally a bit more things, but since I'm still learning I'm missing out on some things.
I do like the idea tho!
I agree, the heavier MDF would be a better choice and smaller panels and ceiling panels to amie it truly mobile. Use lag bolts to hold it on the keyed joins. Remember air exchange and consider some baffle boxes with fans which have rubber seals which make contact to seal and decouple when hung on the booth. Also, with the heavier MDF you can make it inside-out and add interior slats and cloth absorption so the room sounds good with a lot of extra treatments. Take a look at John Sayers mobile booth sketch up file.
I agree ...with a wall assembly basically two inches thick...take out the rockwool and use full sheets of material and go for the mass.
I just did a few sketchups of a 6x8 version of the modular booth based on the op's design. It has 2x4 framing (laid flat) with the outside made of 1/2'' MDF / GG / 1/2'' MDF, and the inside made of 1/2'' MDF, with 1-1/2'' rockwool/fiberglass in the wall cavity. There are about 20 panels, with most panels being 2' wide.
My questions are:
1. How would I design the door? I think a triple layer of 1/2'' MDF with GG in between layers would be good as a DIY door, but how would I design the framing for it?
2. What size/length lagbolts would I use, and what thickness weatherstripping would I use for the rubber seals?
