Hello everybody, I have been reading a lot of post here on John Sayers, and before i start my own building project I hope to get feedback from you guys. :D
About me
My name is Thomas I'm a musician, music teacher and producer. I work primarily as a live musician and music teacher, and also do some work as producer/sound designer. I will be building in my new house – the part of the house to be used as studio used to be a doctors clinic.
Goal
My goal is to create a home/project studio for part time recordings, writing and playing.
Rooms
Booth/dead room with a high level of sound insulation for recording.
Control room with some degree of sound insulation for mixing, but also with window and real daylight as I will be using the space as an office to prepare my work.
Piano room with slight sound insulation. The piano room is as much part of the house as it is part of the studio and I consider this room to be of less priority in terms of insulation and acoustics than the actual studio. However I would like a reasonable amount of acoustic control in time.
Where am I in the process?
I have been reading, learning and planing for some time. I will get the keys for the studio part of the building on the 1st of june and will start construction asap. I will begin with the ctrl room and the box. I have not yet been able to do actual measurements of sound an insulation yet as the house is not mine yet.
The building
The studio building is about 30 years old, and the main house 100 years old.

Situated in a public neighbourhood.with three neighbors, the closest about 7m away.
Budget:
Less than 8.000 US dollars. I will be doing most of the boulding myself with help from friends, and will leave only the most complicated structural things to professionals.
Environmental Noise
Slight traffic nearby, not a big issue.
HVAC
CT I plan to get fresh air from the outside
Booth I plan to wxhange air from the utilityroom.
Disclaimer
From my research I have come up with solution I (picture), however I plan to go with Solution II (picture) for several reasons - mainly that I don't yet own any main monitors, and therefore don't wanna move the two windows to the middle and make flushfits for now.
Questions:
- I it possible to beef up the roof windows?
- Will the basstrap-screens between windos and speakers work, or is it a stupid idea?
- Acoustics in the booth? I have read and read, but I am unable to decide how to plan this? Is it desireble to have a backwall, and refleck sound back to this with absorbers like in the CT?
- Should I break down the inner wall on the left in the booth (to the outside) to get a one leaf? or can I get around it somehow since its only a small piece of wall?
- Do I need 2 doors between the airlock and the box? or will that make a 3 leaf system?
- What do you think overall?
