Hi dudes!
First of all I would like to thank you all for this great site and for all these helpull posts!
John and all of you have been a great help for me to understand most concepts about studio construction and acoustics.
I will tell you some infos about my place.
Its gonna take place on the second floor above my home(no other place to go).
The floor is made from concrete and irons.
Now, there is only free space No walls no ceilings...nothing.
I am planning to make a construction from metal and cement blocks(20cm).The ceilling can be as height as needed. The ceilling cover will be ceramic tiles.
At the floor plan these dot lines are not free space. The same about the box beside the stairs and the other one on the right side.
1)Is a good idea to build the perimeter wall from cement blocks?I need a good isolation.
2) The ceiling is gonna be enought insulated with the ceramic tiles and the inside construction?
3)I need a control room a live room and a 1 or 2 iso booths and a sitting room?Is it possible on this place?Would you please help me with the drawings?
These are my basic questions for now.
Thank you very much for your time, and forgive me for my English.

Yiannis - sorry for the delay - have you had a look at Blue Bear Studios layout at the construction site??

Looks similar in shape and size to your setup.

Hi John,
Thank you very much for your reply.I have looked at Blue Bear studios but I didn't notice that it is similar to my place.I will carefully study it and I'll come back with a draw and further questions.
Would you please help me on these?
1)Is it a good idea to build the perimeter wall from cement blocks?I'll need a good isolation.Of course that will be the outer wall and in there I will build new rooms. What air space should I live between the outer wall and the internal framing.Floating floors and walls on the floors.
2) The ceiling is gonna be enought insulated with the ceramic tiles and the inside construction? What is the desirable height afer all the insulation and traping takes place?
Thank you very much for your time and your patience!
Yiannis
Yiannis - I mentioned Blue Bear because it has the same access in the center of the room, like you, so you could consider putting the control room in the bottom right with a relaxation area on the bottom left. The follow with a vox booth and then studio at the top of the room.
Yes concrete block is a good starting point. Check with Steve in construction as he has an "Ideal" concrete wall system. If you can get 3 -4 m ceiling height it really helps. It allows for floating floor and you can build angled ceiling below it yet still keep good ceiling heights throughout.

Hi John,
these days I am discussing with Steve about the type of construction that I have to do for better isolation but I am also trying to figure out the design of the studio.
I am trying to do a design similar to the Blue Bear that you mention.
Althought it's a similar place, I can't make it work for me.
Could you please help me on the design?
thank you.
Like this Yiannis ;)
cheers

John,
thank you very much.Great plan!!
I have some questions please.
1)At the bottom of the plan (North)there is a 90cm space that is not free.
2) Are these true dimensions?I mean there is a 3m glass between the 2 studios. Is it actually 3m?
3)Should I use these dimensions?
4)If I put the CR at the south side is it better?
thank you.
Sorry I didn't notice hat 90cm section - here it is with the adjustment.
The drawing is to scale so you can use the measurements. The size of windows, doors etc are up to you.
cheers
John
Thank you John !
Is there a golder rule that you have used to design these size of rooms?
Have you used a 3 meter ceilings?
What do you think about placing the CR south?'
thank you very much!
John,
I have measured the CR and I find it W=533(real wall) and L=493(from real trap to CR window)!is it right?
Shouldn't the L be bigger than the W?
If this is not a problem could I add another 90cm from the right side?
Just before the CR door there are two paraller walls.Should I treat them?
The rear trap is,bass traps in the corners and slot resonator in the middle or it is only a bass trap?
Thank you for your time and patience''
well it's actually around 5.4m to the absolute rear wall - making the CR any longer is going to affect the other studio rooms.
Yes you could make it wider as it only affects the recreation area.
I assume you mean the two rear parallel walls at the rear of the control rom - yes treat them as well.
Yes bass traps in the corners and yes you could have a slot across the rear if you wish.
cheers
John
