My space is in a two unit building, so if you imagine a rectangle, half is one unit, the other haf is my unit, which is also split into two smaller units, so my partner and I each have our own space in one suite.
We are good about scheduling our sessions around each other so that hasn't been a problem. My space is furthest on the left, then my partner's space in the middle and in the unit on the right a church just moved in. Yes, a church. This is an industrial area but apparently they decided it was the place for them.
So they are a very loud bunch, lots of hollering, the PA distorting and booming , full band etc...Fine
But they never spoke to us, until we had to approach them to try and work around their scheduled services. They are nice people but showed little regard in terms of talking to their neighbors about being loud etc...and don't get me started about them taking over the parking lot and stack parking to the point where they have boxed in our clients at times....
Anyway, our building shares a floor and an untreated attic. The main area where I get sound from them is the attic, i can hear it from above (it's not the good Lord.) So I'm wondering what the best way is to go about soundproofing.
I have some ideas but if anyone has some advice please let me know.
First off I was thinking R30, then capping the attic with soundboard or drywall? Then building a dividing wall in the attic.
Again, the center studio is a good buffer but leakage seems most evident from the ceiling.
I know the best option would be room within a room but I'm not sure that's feasible.
As far as I can tell, it's a pretty raw attic, only the 4x6"s going across and the ceiling of my studio is made of about 2" x 1/4" slats with plaster in between and then stucco. So as I look up from my space there's the stucco, then the slats, then the 4x6"s, then about a 6' space before it hits a brick roof. The space is 20x43'.
God bless,
Eddie
My Holy Neighbors...Insulate/soundproof the attic?

welcome! is it possible to have them soundproof there facility? maybe a call to the city planning/zoning/police with noise complaints as well as parking may assist them in getting their facility "love thy neighbor" ready?
Well, I don't think I should assume they will anytime soon even though we talked to them about it and they said they would be interested in doing it because it works both ways, if we're tracking drums they can hear them as well so it's in everyone's best interest that we do some soundproofing and all live happily ever after. Really, they need their own facility, sometimes they have car washes going on, picnics in the parking lot, etc...it's a nightmare and they really need a proper place to hold gatherings, I understand the cheap rent was attractive but really, not the best place for a church
As for calling the authorities, well, they bast their services with their doors open so the entire neighborhood can hear them going at it and no one has called yet. Also let's just say the local police dept. is not known to be all that welcoming to our more eccentric clients so we've managed to stay under the radar and don't want to attract the attention of the boys in blue.
Any construction advice. My tech mentioned also cutting the concrete slab that we all share to help with the low end, not a big problem for me, but my partner next door does get a lot of rumble from them.
Thanks,
Eddie
anything you can do to decouple the space - the floor would be good assuming it can then support the massive isolation walls and ceiling - you could probably some really good isolation.
