Typical Bedroom Studio Setup

I've attached the sketch up file. Basically I'm constructing bass traps and broadband absorbers. Could you help me with the desk placement and bass traps placement? I know for the listening position it has to be 38% from the window, and to the sides there must be a broadband absorber in order to increase the stereo image. Maybe two from floor-to-ceiling bass trap 6 inch with 703 or fiberglass with wheels on bottom, so I can place them like if they were walls. For the side walls I would probably construct broadband absorbers of 4" each, should I place 2 of them separately? Or 3 together? For the back I am assuming 2 gobos would be really nice, from floor to ceiling.

Oh I am using it for mixing and vocal tracking. I forgot to mention that I will need to isolate the window since there's a lot of traffic noise on the outside.
welcome! please update your profile to include your location information and take some time to read the "README before posting" stickie so you can provide all the relevant information needed by folks on the board.
Sorry man I missed that one. I'm from Argentina but I travel a lot to Chile and Brasil. I am in a record company that has their HQ there, so I'm able to buy it here in Buenos Aires or in Santiago. Is the sketch Up model ok?
what kind of construction can you do? could you remove the closet? one option might be to build an inside-out wall on the window side and add a smaller window in that wall so you have some daylight but also much more isolation. put the desk facing your new wall.

Gleen, this is just supreme work! I am really glad man. However I was wondering if the absorbers to the side have to be different in dimensions or depth? Cause I've read that you can have acoustic panels to the sides and bass trapping to the front and back, but maybe I'm wrong. Could you detail this a bit? Broadband, Hi frec, etc? Also I would like to ask what are the exact dimensions to make the absorbers, regarding wood. Since I wanna start as soon as possible and upload the work with my camera! I was also thinking on putting a diffuser next to the absorber on the door, instead of two absorbers, one absorber and one diffuser --> Is this good?
Also, I read that immediate side reflection points don't screw the low end so much. That's why it's best recommended to put a broadband absorber instead of a bass trap, is this wrong?
use a 4" thick absorber - 4" or so spaced off the wall if possible - as your reflection point treatment. this will handle the low-mid as well as HF. it's often the mids that become problematic when the HF is tempered and then you still need LF absorption as well so the thicker absorbers help get enough into your space.
Ok so rounding up I'm gonna build: 2 x 6" bass traps on the corners. 2 x 4" bass traps with slats* 4 x 4" broadband absorbers for all round freq on the side walls 3 x 4" broadband absorbers on the back wall where the closet and door is. 2 x 2" clouds on the ceiling** * The slats resonator have to be in an alternate dimensions? I've come up with that: 1.5” slat – reflects above 9000 hz 2.0” slat – reflects above 6500 hz 2.5” slat - reflects above 5400 hz So what is the best for me? ** The clouds don't have to be covered with a wood panel on the back right? So it reflects in the ceiling and then bounces again and I can get more absorption.
i recommend the hard backed clouds in your room - the hard back adds some wave guide effects which can shift the modal response a bit over the desk more than simply a porous absorber. the slat resonator uses a different principle when operating in front of a sealed air cavity than they do simply as reflector strips (like when widely spaced in front of an absorber). you can use John's slat patterns for creating a broadband effect - 25mm, 50mm, 100mm slats spaced on 5, 10, 15mm slots.
Thanks gullfo, you've been of much support. However for the front walls I'll be doing two 2' x 8' x 4" on the corners acting as bass traps. And in the center I'm thinking of building like a walltrap, 4' x 8' x 4" with wood slats following the pattern of John, but sticked to the wall, so it leaves a gap of air between the new "wall" and the window. I hope this provides the insulation I need of external noise. So instead of building a inside out wall, I'll be putting 3 bass traps, two corners and one big in the center. However I am in trouble finding a dealer of the owens corning 703 or similar insulation boards in my place, and without that I can't go on. I am thinking about importing them but it may cost too much. You know anyone who got good boards or a dealer in Argentina or Chile?
I found a retailer that has the Owens Corning QuietR Duct Liner, from the website of the manufacturer these seem pretty similar to the OC 703. The nrc ratings are as follows: 2" -> 0.12 (125Hz) 0.66 (250Hz) 1.04 (500Hz) 1.08 (1000Hz) 1.04 (2000Hz) 1.07 (4000Hz) 0.95 (NRC) Is anyone familiar with this product? Tried a search an Ethan Winer says it's like the oc 703. But my dealer says this one is 24 kg/m3 instead of the 48 kg/m3 of the 703. What should I do? Here's the pdf of the duct liner. http://www.owenscorning.com/worldwide/mexico/pdfs/quietr.pdf
this is duct liner - it's intended to be used inside the HVAC ducting to dampen it and it only adds minimal absorption. what you need is rockwool or fiberglass around 48kg/m3. have your tried: Knauf de Chile Ltda. San Ignacio 181 Loteo Portezuelo Quilicura Santiago de Chile Phone: +56 2 747-1344/45 / 7385640 Fax: +56 2 738-6986 Web: http://www.knauf.cl E-mail: [removed] or http://owenscorning.com/worldwide/mexico/RF7000.asp
Minimal absorption? But I've read in several other forums that it works just like a OC 701! Now I'm confused... So, the NRC ratings and stuff per bandwidth doesn't always count? I've emailed the Knauf company, hope they'll hit me up!!! Thanks Glenn, sorry for all the questions. I've read a lot but still I haven't figure it out everything! I will however make this design in reality and will invite you for some whisky overseas! haha
what are you using 701 for? you want 100mm 48kg/m3 for your room treatments, and for large cavities or between isolation walls - 15kg/m3. consider rockwool, fiberglass, cotton, hemp, wood fiber, etc type insulation as alternatives but keep in mind the thickness and mass.
