I know this topic is :horse: . But I am coming from a price standpoint. I need to cut cost anywhere I can and the Quietrock seems like the best place to start. So originally I was planning on going with two sheets of 1/2" QuietRock on each surface of a dual wall to cover a total of 188.6 sq ft. At about 12 sheets I would need, that would be a total of about $451 plus tax. And QuietRock is claiming an STC of around 71. Plus add a 5/8" standard and two Green Glue tubes for the 32 sq ft ceiling and that's roughly another $53. So around $500 plus tax for the Quietrock setup. Do you guys also recommend Green Glue between QuietRock? I would think no, according to QuietRock installation documentation!
But then I just did a forum search last night an saw 98% of comments about the stuff was that it's a waste of money and the same thing could be achieved with standard Gypsum and Green Glue which I read claims to be better on lows. So I priced that up and it's a decent amount less. You figure to cover a total of 220.6 sq ft (not including windows and doors) with double sheetrock, that's $147.84 for 12 sheets of 5/8" sheet rock. 220.6 sq ft of Green Glue coverage I would need roughly 12 tubes. So add on the $175 for the case and that's about $323 plus tax and any shipping if I can't find Green Glue locally for the Standard Gypsum setup.
Now, you guys are saying the standard should be within a few dB of the QuietRock and should be even better with the Green Glue?
What's the worst case scenario if I ditched the Green Glue altogether and just did the double standard 5/8"?
What's the worst case if I just use 1 Green Glue tube per 4 x 8?
The specs for the booth are as follows in case my math is off (since I calculated all of this based on square footage):
Interior dimensions = 4' x 8'
Glass = 5 sq ft each
Doors = 17.8 sq ft each
Doors + Glass = 22.8 sq ft each wall
Front outer wall 63 sq ft - 22.8 sq ft = 41.8 sq ft
Front inner wall 56 sq ft - 22.8 sq ft = 34.8 sq ft
Rear inner wall = 56 sq ft
Side inner walls = 28 sq ft x2 = 56 sq ft
Ceiling = 32 sq ft
Total QuietRock needed = 188.6 sq ft x2
Plus 32 sq ft standard Gypsum for ceiling and 2 Green glue tubes.
Total standard drywall = 220.6 x2
Total GreenGlue needed = 12 tubes
1" QuietRock 500 vs 1-1/4" Standard Gypsum and Green Glue.

where is your thread?
Keep in mind that the overall mass is going to factor heavily (no pun) in the low frequency isolation. The heaviest solution will have an advantage. That's why double standard 5/8" is such a great deal.
Also keep in mind that you'll have some waste factor. Industry average is 11%. Look at the cost of the scrap piling up in the dumpster.
Yeah, after realizing I would save close to $200 going this route, it made more sense on that alone. Plus I had to pay $500 to terminex today for the termite problem, which was an unexpected hit!Keep in mind that the overall mass is going to factor heavily (no pun) in the low frequency isolation. Your Green Glue budget is way high. You can shave $50 a case
How? I payed $179 for the case of 12. I haven't opened it though. Is there somewhere cheaper I can get it? Also, when put the sheet rock up, what's best to fill in any large gaps between sheets before spackling? Should I use I have some Quiet Seal and some USG. Should I use those or will filling in with spackle work just fine?Your Green Glue budget is way high. You can shave $50 a case
For sure. Actually you're $60 high. Send me a PM.
Or just use QuietGlue Pro if this is a no labor cost install. QG Pro outperforms Green Glue in 3 years of testing and is $60-$70 cheaper online from all the dealers. You don't even have to call Ted for a "special" price.

In the interests of staying factual you cannot hear a difference in performance. GG is same cost or less, and 1/2 to 1/3 the thickness so easier to install. Also look around and you'll see GG has been raved about for 7 years.
EDIT: I should have said 200-300% more viscous. Say that after dispensing 48 tubes at 15 trigger pulls per tube...
We don't agree Ted. All our fields tests show that both products extrude at the same speed with a 3/8" opening. No difference, but QuietGlue Pro offers better performance at 30% lower cost.
More details attached.
I agree.We don't agree Ted.
Is there a real chance that this is not a marketing dive and that the two could be, at some level, equal?
I mean, I love a good argument, especially with qualified help. What I do NOT like is a basic sales brochure administered and orchestrated by the co-defendants:)
But this ain't my forum...
OK! Now with the 5/8" drywall, where can I save money? Should I be paying for the expensive $12-14 mold resistant drywall? Or is the cheap $8 stuff just fine. Here are some links. Which one should I go with?

I'd go for the cheap. No sense paying for boutique drywall. Get the cheapest 5/8" you can find. It's heavy and easy to work with.
Sweet! Thanks bro!I'd go for the cheap. No sense paying for boutique drywall. Get the cheapest 5/8" you can find. It's heavy and easy to work with.
No sense making things complicated if there's no benefit. Similarly, so sense paying for products where you won't see a benefit.
True! The last thing I can't really seem to wrap my head around is properly sealing the windows. The best thing I've been able to find is Bassman's install in the church: http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... 479#p83479. Is there any literature anywhere you can think of that goes into GREAT detail on this process? I've tried searching but the words window, seal, and install are so vague that it comes up with so much useless crap to sift through.
You will find that Mr White is exclusively involved in matters that require green glue. Saying that, your phrase "useless crap" is often resigned to those that cannot at first understand and second, actually perform this work for a living. All of this will take time...if it is not your primary trade...expect it to take even longer:)True! The last thing I can't really seem to wrap my head around is properly sealing the windows. I don't understand your response! To explain again, I am looking for more detailed posts on properly installing/sealing/caulking booth windows. I said that I've tried the search function but the words "window", "seal", and "install" are such vague terms that it comes up with so many different results than what I'm looking for. Using quotations often makes the search too specific and the engine is unable to find anything at all. That question wasn't referring to Green Glue at all. So again, is there any other posts or threads that show every detail of this process? EDIT: Nvm, found it!You will find that Mr White is exclusively involved in matters that require green glue. you found the posts you needed? it might not have been clear - where you looking for the caulking of the window jamb to the rough framing or the glazing support within the window jamb using rubber seals?
Both sort of. I wanted to see if people were using caulk to seal their windows or rubber/neoprene. I found knightfly's diagram. Thanks!you found the posts you needed? it might not have been clear - where you looking for the caulking of the window jamb to the rough framing or the glazing support within the window jamb using rubber seals?
