Ok so my studio build is coming along nicely but I have reached the inevitable HVAC hurdle. So far I’ve had 4 different contractors come out to give me quotes and all of them have proposed the same thing; Mitsubishi MXZ mini-splits. Ive tried to get information on a proper ducted system out of them but lack of experience with audio applications means they have trouble understanding such concepts as silent operation and air exchange also the fact that the studio is in an attic adds the problem of where to run the ductwork and the standard response has been "no those are only for large commercial spaces, and office blocks". So I seem to be left with
Option no1: opting for the Mitsubishi system which means dealing with an supposed 22db from the wall units and incorporating some kind of air exchange system in which case im curious to know if anyone has experience with these units and also some advice on how best to attack the fresh air issue
Option no 2: attempting to install a ducted system myself. Is this even feasible? Im not even sure where I can buy the central unit.
Attached is a 3d sketchup file of the studio space to complement the original 2d drawing which has since been modified, other pertinent information can be found in my original post (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14194)
Climate is central france , winters can get as low as -15 and summer usually hovers around the high 20s low 30s getting quite cool at night.

maybe its two things: a ducted air exchange to get air in and out and the split system. there is another product which provides some limited fresh air as part of the solution but you still need a room return for it to function within a sealed room. there are also concealed duct systems which have the compactness of the split units (the compressor is outside and the fan and evaporator are contained in a small unit). however, getting the ducting into your studio after you have built it means you will be ripping down parts of your expensive studio to retro-fit something that should have been one of the first things planned...
Glenn,
I am planning out my HVAC now for a new studio build. Where can I find more information about the concealed duct systems you mentioned? And do they provide adequate fresh air?
thanks,
Tom
EDIT:
I think I've found what you were talking about:
http://us.sanyo.com/HVAC-By-System-Type ... onditioner
It shows Fresh Air Intake as optional. Didn't see any information on the amount of fresh air moved. I may have to contact the manufacturer directly. That said, if you can recommend a brand that you know can provide enough fresh air, please let me know.
