hey guys,
i'm about to put the ceiling up in my room. it will consist of 2 layers of plasterboard, each 12.5 mm thick, GG in between.
do i need to screw them together or can i lay the second layer of PB on the first one without screwing?
greetings from the couch!

Are you thinking the GG would actually glue them together? GG really has no bonding ability.
You would need to use screws, all the way through to the RC or stud. You can't screw the boards together (using the bottom board as anchor is not sufficient).
hi,
i'm aware that gg has no bonding ability, but i thought that maybe gravity has enough power for the gg to perform its duty... apparently i'm wrong?
greetings

Hi Chris,
Yup! :) Just like tarnationsauce said: You really do need to screw all the way through both layers and into the joists. That's the only safe way to attach it. I'd hate to have hundreds of kilograms of rock hanging over my head, suspended on nothing more than a hope... :) Also, 12.5mm drywall is too thin: resonant frequency is too high, too flexible, not enough mass. It won't do a good job of isolation. Go with 16mm if you can get it, or 15mm. Much better. And don't forget to seal each layer carefully as you go: failing to seal both layers hermetically will cost you dearly in terms of isolation. - Stuart -but i thought that maybe gravity has enough power for the gg to perform its duty... apparently i'm wrong?
