Good evening to all
I am new here and have spent the last hours reading myself up on the issue of soundproofing, i am getting closer to understand it more and more.
Here is the deal
My budget is between 500-1000 dollars. but still i need it to sound as good it can get in that range
I have recently bought a new appartment here in Oslo, Norway and my controlroom is already up and running. but i need a room for vocal recording as well and the room is already there, i have a small room next door and the measurements on that room is: 4´widt x8 length´7,9´height , and this room needs to be soundproof since i live in a 4 floor appartment building with a lot of families in it.
Its on the first floor so i believe that there is no need for any isolation in the flooring area.
But i need to do the ceeling and the walls
After what i have understood so far is that i need to lower the ceeling by using a leaf consisting either of double drywall or a soundisolation mat that i put up there. then either a 2"x4" or a 1,5"x3" to build it down and fill that with mass materials and then add drywall outside of that.
Same procedure on the walls
So my question to you is as followed.
Am I on the right track here, does it seem right?
Do you recommend using room in room instead?
Is the room and apropriate size for a recording room?
And do you have any material recomentadions for me? or general recomendations?
Thank you in advance
Best Regards

Soundproofing of a small room

Welcome! If you can put a room within a room sitting on a decoupled membrane floor, that is probably your best option for high isolation. Otherwise, just attaching new framing and drywall to existing walls is not likely to give you much for roughly the same cost as a properly decoupled room. What you want to avoid is any flanking which is why you make the floor decoupled and build your booth on that. Make sure you plan for ventilation, wiring, lights, window, and door sealing.
thank you glenn! Yeah the optimal idea is to build room in room. i just fear that if i do that it will be to small to catch the full specter of the vocal recordings. I am afraid i will damper the acoustics and the souncd to much. there is just enough room for a 4x4x7,9 booth in there, but then again we speak of square walls så i will have to build diagonal walls inside the booth right? Do you have any suggestions for a room in room that would fit the room. Here is a picture of the room where i will have a soundboothWelcome! maybe use 2x3 and inside out construction to make it 3'4 x 6'8 x 7'2 and cover with cloth and slats as needed to balance it. make the floor 1" rigid insulation with 2x 3/4" plywood
thank you so much for this glenn. it looks awsome.
