Hey Guys, I'm Andre from Aurora, Colorado and this is my first post. Let me know how I do posting.php?mode=post&f=1#. This is my attempt to better my acoustical sound in the overall room for mixing and to build a vocal booth.
I what to start by saying, the shape of this room has been a real challenge but I've made the best of it with 2'x4' bass traps. The walls are standard double leaf with cheap isolation if any. I can hear my neighbors so I know they can hear me. I decided to build a 4x6x7 dawbox for vocals. I need help with a solution as far as overall sound. My price range is $500-$1000 to kill down the sound getting in my apartment and getting out. The options must be apartment friendly as I will have to put everything back to its normal condition.
Some questions of mine:
-Is my desk in the best place for mixing?
-Would it be a good idea to have a 4x6x7 booth in front of the desk where the mic is?
-I have no ceiling traps but the ceiling has that cheesy popcorn texture, I that enough for sound control?

Any comments are welcome. thanks for viewing
i would center the desk on the window, absorber the wall (then) on the back-right hand side, space the couch out from the closets and square on to the desk. then angled absorbers on either side of the desk to give a bit of symmetry, the back of the the angled absorber could help enclose the "vox" booth.
This this what you mean glenn?
something like that except i wouldn't put an actual booth there, just the angled absorbers and just use that corner (with more absorbers as your "booth", if you actually do need a booth, then i would put the booth opposite the wall that juts out (basically between the windows) then turn the desk to face the wall to the left and treat first reflections etc. you might have to turn to see someone in the booth and for mixing you can stand up an absorber to control reflections off the booth.
Good advice! So how about this?
Hey Glenn, What would you suggest If I was to build a separation wall between the living room and dining room where the circle table is?
maybe add the wall on the end of the inset wall, a new door (with absorber) and turn everything. you might then have enough room for a vox booth in the corner. or just go with the gobos until you find you need to change it.
Thanks Glenn, this looks awesome. I may still want to go with the booth considering my mic picks up people going up and down the stairs and the front door closing, when the neighbors overhead are walking. even with the mic volume on -40bB it catches all bumping LOL.
