Hello, We are going to make a mastering room in our basement. Below you may see the plan of the raw room and sizes. Please pay attention that there is just one long room in our basement. The first question is on which side should be speakers and desk. On the "Position A" or "Position B"? (Positions are shown on the 2nd picture) After deciding we will proceed to the next step :) Thanks for your inputs. Deniz

turn position B 90 degrees counter clockwise.
Thanks for the reply Glenn . If we turn the position B 90 degrees counter clockwise should we build a wall between small room and big room? And create two seperate rooms? The new big room will have the size 4.045m (w), 4.74 m (l), 2.64m (h). We were thinking that both "Position B" & "Position A" are ideal for sound to travel along the room and reduce the wave energy. Is it a wrong thinking?
you could extend a new wall under the ceiling beam and divide A & B and make B your CR with the front being the "top" section (windows to your right).
Deniz...where do you live, geographically in the world? Would you mind updating your profile to reflect this new information for those that might try to help? Thank you sir,

Hello Brien, I am from Ankara - I have already updated my details. I was thinking about Glenn's proposal but I guess having a smaller room will require more acoustical treatment and it will increase the costs. Some of my friends advice me to use whole area. I should decide what to do in few days because workers will come to house to start renovation.
if you want to keep it open that's fine tow but i'd still turn the mix desk to face the top wall...

Either way, with or without that wall, it is still a small room and will still need a lot of treatment, so that isn't really a factor in deciding. I agree with Glenn: Have your desk facing the top in position "B", and maybe extend the wall if you want to. That would be good. But you could also use position "A", if you want. That will also work. If you do that, you could build an "L" shaped wall at the back of the room (where "position B" is), to give yourself a small live room or vocal booth, with some storage space in the thin section (1.185 m) at the top. Post your SketchUp model here, and I'll show you what I mean. - Stuart -
yes, just extend a wall between A and B just enough to accommodate the angled side treatments for the CR and frame things so if you decide to enclose you can make that happen fairly easily without a lot of restructuring, then the remaining space under the beam is open. later if you decide you want to enclose the CR, you can simply extend the wall the rest of the way and adjust the treatments.
