I'm considering building my own studio and practice space, and I'm fortunate to live on a plot of four acres in which noise concerns aree pretty minimal.
I've read around and browsed many floor plans and such, and mostly what I'm coming across are plans that are based around converting your basement, or your garage.
What I want to know is, ideally, what would be the best floor plan if you were to say, construct your own building.
Obviously, this would be difficult to answer without specifics regarding the application of the studio... but generally, what would be the best layout or shape of the building structure?
I'd really like to keep it simple and basic... vocal booth -> live room -> control room
And what kind of size am I looking at? Like what would be the smallest square footage that would accommodate say, 2 guitars, 1 drum kit, and 1 bass, + vocal booth and control room.
studio from the ground up (external building)

To really answer you need a budget. One way to calculate would be to use the cost of a high end home in your area + 30%. divide that amount into your budget and that will be a very rough approximation of the size. So if the cost is $300/ft2 + $100 = $400/ft2. If your budget is $80000 then you could afford a studio of roughly 200ft2 with a 10th ceiling would be 2000ft3 which might be enough.
