Hello everyone, and I found a great place to learn from all ou folks.
Here's my situation, I have a double car garage that is 22x 26, and 10ft ceiling. I'm getting conflicting information regarding to whether split the room in two, or leave one large room. I want to mainly use the room for live drum recording, and the other stuff usually stuff gets tracked after the drums. I'm not so sure if I should build a control room and take away from the large space? thank you all and happy holidays
One big room or 2 smaller rooms????

welcome. please fill out your profile with your location information. please explain a bit more about how you intend to use this space - besides tracking - do you intend to do the mixing there? commercial or self? mastering? if you're just tracking or used to mixing in an open space then i'd leave it open. if you intend to spend a significant amount of time mixing and want more accuracy, then an actual control room would probably be a better bet. if you need a lot of isolation, maker some decent size isolation rooms may also be less costly than trying to isolate the entire space to a higher level.
Thanks gullfo,
currently I record with clients in the same room, except for the vocalist, I will place outside. But we are having issues with the drums too loud for the players in the headphones in the same room. I can build two separate rooms if need, but all is done in the one room, tracking mixing , and mastering. I did have Auralex design the room treatment, but was only able to treat 70% of the room cause of cost. but it yields great results for live drums., but the other players are having a hard time in the headphones. THANK YOU
Have you built some gobos to try and create some isolation? It might be enough to block the kit a bit and stillmget enough life out ofnthe drums. Otherwise you might just have to build a booth, perhaps using multiple door sliders so you can isolate the area enough but still open it up when necessary.
