Hi all. So I am quite the newb come designing a studio and acoustics. I made this 3D shell of the spaces I've got available. http://www.mediafire.com/?z1ot7kapwzb79fw I want the smaller room to be my vocal booth/iso booth. The middle room my control room. And the midsized room on the other side is the live room. You will notice there are no doors connecting the vocal booth and live room to the control room at this stage. Their doors are on the outside at it stands but its gonna be closed off and new doors will be put in wherever I finally decide to do so. If anyone can maybe give some thoughts on what will be best regarding the windows, doors and acoustic panels for my studio it'll be greatly appreciated. regards teeJAY
could you update your profile to include location and perhaps some more detail on what you're trying to achieve with the space, isolation requirements, etc. so we have a better idea on how to prioritize using the space. desk size? workflow? also, would you want the isolation room and live room together? can you adjust the wall between the CR and live room?
Haha. So i updated my profile a tad. Sorry bout that. First timer. Alright. So I stay in South Africa and most of the business I got in the past were younger bands making demos or doing a first album. Im not looking to take over the business of the local massive studios or anything like that. Isolation wise. The longest wall that is connected to all three rooms is on the roadside. Im gonna have to make sure no sound comes into the booths/liveroom and as little sound as possible must go out of any room as the neighbors are quite close. My desk size will be roughly 1.7meters x 1.0meters. I would prefer the iso booth and liveroom be split by the control room. The window on the longest walls side can be moved if necessary. The wall between the CR and liveroom, however, can't be moved, only windows and doors can be added. Does that help a bit? thanks a heap
maybe something like this. build isolation walls and ceilings. block off the window facing the road. use some heavy slider doors between the rooms to provide easy access and lots of visibility.

thanks so much for the quick response. your suggestions seem great. the only problem i can see at this stage is completely blocking off that front window. since this studio is gonna be at my house and that is the only window on the face of my home. so my house's aesthetics might be jeopardized. is it gonna be possible to keep the window or at least a window of some sort in this design just so my home's face is still okay? haha. the window can be moved and made smaller, also, the control room doesn't need to be as isolated as the other rooms. if there's anything you can think off that might sort out this issue then i don't foresee any further issues. thanks so much teeJAY
you could block off the interior of the window space and leave the exterior window. leave enough opening for a small vertical window on the front of the CR so you can get some daylight into the front of the room and you'll add a heavy window on the isolation wall. plus you have the large window door on the back of the room. on the back slider you might be able to add something like the RPG clear treatments for diffusion or absorption.
