Hello guys, I'm new to the forum and I wanted to just say that I have learnt alot from what I have read so far. I'm abit of a noob to acoustics and studio builds so i thought i would post up what I'm doing to see if you guys have any ides for me. I have read the forum rules and I'm not asking any questions as such, just thought you guys would be interested in having a look. please do comment if you have any ideas though! Sorry for the rubbish photos. there is no room to move around to get a good enough pic yet!! We are turning a industrial unit into a rehearsal/ recording studio, we have already built the 4 other rehearsal rooms. not perfectly soundproofed but pretty good for a first go! We plan to learn from our mistakes and make this final room perfect! :) the live room was originaly going to be 2 rehearsal rooms but I managed to persude the owner to just make 1 big room. as you can see from the pics we have to knock down the seperation wall!

I have drawn out a very basic plan of the live and control room with the dimensions for you to have a look at. the ceiling slopes upwards in the live room and we plan to build right up to it in 4 steps. you can see this by the rubbish diagram that I have drawn for you! any comments with this? We have just bought a 2x1m sized double grazed window to fit between the 2 rooms. Will this be enough to be soundproof? we know they have to be fitted to an angle but any other tips for fitting windows? As you can see we are building a stud frame inside this room and we plan to have as many angles as possible Also we plan to have bass absorbtion in every corner possible. Using all the plans I have found on this sight! :) We have never built a floating floor before, Im sure I can find enough info on here to help us out! but any tips would be great! Anyway we plan to be working very hard on this to be done by mid january So I will hopefully have lots of pics coming up soon! and I'm sure if we come up to any problems I will ask for your help then! Any ideas before we complete the build would be great! Check out the height of our ceiling!! :) Many thanks!! Jez

what type of glass are the windows made of? thickness? any existing frames for just the glazing at this point?
Hi Gulfo, So sorry for the late reply, we have been so busy trying to get this build done in any spare moment that we have. unfortunately I'm stuck in bed with the flu now, but at least I can show you guys more progess. I didnt manage top get too much info on the window. its 2.4m long, 1.1 m high it is a double glazed panel with 10mm gap between the two sheets. we have decided to put in another window on the control room side in now anyway so we can keep the cavity totaly independant. I decided to try out the sketch up software, not great but at at least it gives you a better idea!

As you can now see we have knocked down the wall and built it up ready for when the chippy comes in to do all his magic on the famework for ceiling, windows, doors etc. you can see in the left hand side of this pic where we have started to build the stud frame for the control room and the bass absorber.

This pic shows the 2 layers of solid concrete blocks to seperate the rooms with the cavity in the middle.we plan to build 2 seperate window frames on each to have 2 windows leaving at least a 10cm cavity. also both sides of the wall will have stud walls put up!

We knocked out room for another door for access into the live room. this is the final pic from the live room of the progress so far! messy I know!! but you get the idea. The chippy is in next week to start with the famework :) Please shout at me if you can see if I'm doing anything wrong!! :)

looks like a nice space! what are the stud walls going to do? are those the treatment frames or were you considering another isolation layer? if the latter, this will end up being a triple leaf between the CR and live room and perhaps elsewhere. you don't actually need to angle the windows between the rooms other than to change how they reflect light. the 2m x 1m with that separation should be OK but the dual glazed with 10mm gap will result in a quad leaf effect so you're better off getting some heavy glass - 10mm on one side and 12mm on the other. what are you thinking about for doors?
