i think so. i'll have the updated plan tonight. here's a good link for understanding how the clips for the ceiling need to be assembled. http://www.soundisolationcompany.com/pd ... awings.pdf. we won't be using clips on the walls unless you think it's in your budget. in additional, you will need something to decouple the walls from the floor and ceiling joists - neoprene or equiv. so with the plan i'll include the specs on that.
Basement recording studio. Any suggestions?

You rock Glenn! Thanks for everything.
here's an update. i'm thinking of angling the short wall in front of the sump. and i'm still thinking about the meter access. did you say you need regular access to the meter or not? i realize you access to the turn off value. is there any option to move that meter? say into the sump area?
Wow looks amazing! Thank you very much! Unfortunately there isn't a way to move the water meter because it comes out from the wall. But maybe I can have a hole in that area that is only big enough to fit my hand and maybe even stuffed with insulation just incase I ever need to turn the water off?
for the valve, you would have an access panel on the wall behind the speaker soffit to allow access. just trying to find ways to make it easier... we'll stick with this approach for now.
Awesome. So do I just count all of the 2x4's to get the amount of wood to buy? I saw that the .skp file was 3d and i could see all of the framing. Seriously. Amazing job!
yes count the long ones and assume the soffits will use fewer plus one the short walls you'll have some left over. pretty much though if you have spares you'll find uses (like the new laundry room, or framing a door on the stairs, or utility closet etc... once your wife finds out you can build things, it's all over...
Ok Ill count them up this week. So Im guessing I will build the outer walls first then work on the inner parts once the skeleton is ready. I'm kinda stumped on the window... I will search the construction forums to get an idea on what to do.
if you have not purchased Rod Gervais' book http://www.amazon.com/Home-Recording-St ... B004A8ZOV8 then now is the time. it contains a lot of the key details including the fire stopping, windows, doors, ventilation, electrical etc
Ok I'll get that this week. Thanks for letting me know!
here's the latest model. need to define the internals of the ducting but otherwise pretty complete. for your decoupling, you will want to find some 1/4" neoprene as wide as the 2x4 and 35-40 hardness. this lays under the bottom plate and over the top plate of the isolation walls. it also seals the bottom of the wall. the access to the water valve - leave an opening (say 8" around) through the bottom of the right-hand soffit to an small access panel on hinges. this way you can pull aside some cloth and reach in, open the small panel and turn the valve. for the "light window" in the CR - use some laminated PVC windows to keep the mass light enough to avoid strong triple leaf effects and not resonate significantly. you will need MDF and plywood for various parts of this construction as well.
i'll detail the materials being used later tonight.
Wow I'm speechless. It looks amazing! I can't stop looking at the design. Amazing job!
Having a material list will help a lot, I appreciate all of the hard work you've put into the design.
I will be making another video and title it " The virtual tour"
Here's the video i posted to youtube

Glenn,
I'm thinking about eventually getting this to match my yamaha hs80m's. Where would I put it?
the sub could be placed somewhat off-center near the front wall (the gap left in front of the desk). here's the materials placement.
Hey Glenn,
Do we have a sketchup file with all of the measurements? I'm buying the 2x4's tomorrow.
Should I also get some other material when I get the 2x4's You said rubber stripping?
I'm just trying to figure out exactly how much I'll need.
the SU file is attached in the previous post with the render images.
oh yeah ok cool Thanks!
