flush mounting bass traps and panel absorbers within wall

Hi all! Hoping for some advice as to if flush mounting bass traps and panel absorbers into a wall would effect their efficiency? I'm currently trying to design my recording and vocal room that will begin being constructed within a few weeks. Any help would be awesome!
