I really need to find a better way to isolate my computer noise. It is so noisy, so i build a desk where it sits in its own sealable compartment.. But being an overclocked AMD it has a tendency to oveheat.. lots.. so i have to keep opening it up.. i dont have much to spend on this. as im on a hardware drive at the moment.. (1 rack a week :) ) so what are the ideas? cover the inside with acoustic foam? and make some sort of pipe fan? can i buy this fan anywhere? i'm in melbourne by the way, and my recording is in the same room as my computer.. thankyah.
Did you consider moving the PC outside the room? It's fairly easy to extend the keyboard, video mouse. If its a long distance a cat5 extender works great and you can pick them up cheap off ebay. If its not so far - you can get extended cables. If you can't move the PC outside the room - you could try to make the PC less noisy. These links have some solutions http://www.quietpc.ca/silentdrive.html http://www.buildsilentpc.com/ Also, I can't remember which one, but one of the studio's with pics on Johns site has some photo's of a PC inside an enclosure.
that's right Andrew - it's here;) C:\Documents and Settings\jannel\My Documents\Internet\Home Site\Studio\Mainpage\MP-laptoppop.htm cheers John
to extend the computer i need to buy expensive cables to extend my i/o devices for recording etc. and digital i/o cables.. really need a way of enclosing the computer but still have good ventilation. the space it is in currently is totally sealable with 10mm MDF all the way around, but i cannot close it due to overheating.. john, am i supposed to hack into your computer to get that document.. ;) thanks guys.
and i cant wait to upgrade my 03d to protools to get rid of the damn fan noise from that too.. andrew im still not too sure what to look for in ebay.. just out of curiosity.
I was saying a cat5 extender can be found on ebay - but it's moot if you can't really extend your PC to another room.
ah thanks john.. i was actually trying to find that one before, but couldnt find it.. ive decided to reorganise my console desk.. use the current rack space for computer, with space to ventilate and seal off. and convert my nearfield speaker stands to rack mounts.. and use my current computer space for cable/mic storage.. anyway. this is irrelevant.. but im using you guys as my thought process.. thanks!
