Hello, I have a basement that only has the exterior walls framed. I am trying to figure out the best layout for the control room. Currently my ceiling height is 9' from the floor to the bottom of the studs. I will be using RISC 1 clips with RISC 2 channel and 2 layers of 5/8" drywall which I'm guessing might take up about 4" to 6" For laying out the control room I am trying to use the Sepmeyer ratio of 1:1.14:1.39. I was planning on finishing a flat ceiling at an approx height of 8.5' and using a suspended cloud to get my angle. My question is when designing the room should I use the total ceiling height (approx 8.5') or do I need to factor in the cloud? If so, should I use the lowest or highest point of the cloud for my room ratio? Also, once I have my room ratio, if I want to angle the four corners and run the long walls on an angle, is the width and length supposed to be the shortest or longest dimension of of the walls? What are the proper angles in degrees? It seems the more I research this, the more confused I am. Can anybody out there please clear this up?
Ratios are established by the hard boundaries of the room, walls/ceiling/floor at finish elevation. John recommends 6 degrees per wall or a 12 degree total if only one wall is pitched. You said exterior walls right after you said basement...which one is it :) While establishing a good ratio is a good place to start, they are established from rectangular rooms so any change of geometry that results in changed room response is no longer able to be quantified based on the former ratios. Ah-ite?
WHY are you splayng the walls? Andre

you mean RISC1 clips with hat channel? no RC2 is needed if your doing the isolation clips. also, it should be less than 2" taken by the clips and channel so you'll have more than 8.5'
Sorry, I missed that.

Hardluck, Either you are going to angle the hard interior walls and 'go for it' and hope for the best modal response OR you are going to calculate and build based on best ratios for rectangular rooms. It's an either/or proposition. If you are intent on splaying walls, just make sure that your ceiling height and front/back dimensions have nothing in common and you should be ok. For splayed walls - all the research and optimization of ratios for rectangular rooms is 'out the window'. ... ok I'm done. :horse: Cheers, John
