WOW a new topic! Finally back in the studio finishing off all the liitle bits and bobs. I have my 1st booking!!! But one question- Is building a slat wall as per johns design ( plywood angled box with slat..ie Hard back) over the "inside out" wall an oxy-moron? Am I wasting an extra 120mm of depth that the inside out wall creates by placing the plywood structure against it? Does anyone have any other ideas for the physical way I would build a slat wall in this room? Pictures? It's more the building process that I'm after...frame ect. Ta, will update my diary soon. lil
not sure if you got this answered in another thread but if you check, a number of John's designs include slats over the inside-out wall but not as separate units. not that you couldn't extend out sections of the wall to add deeper/angled cavities for sections of slats. if you were to want to build out some slat units, i'd leave some spacing around and behind them to let the inside-out walls function.

Adding to what Glenn said: This is exactly what Javier did in his live room, and it worked out great. Inside-out walls with slats on them. He built out a bit from the inside-out frames and put the slats across that, taking care to seal the top bottom and sides, of course. And that room turned out very well. In my opinion, it's one of the best-sounding live rooms in Chile. In fact, the way I understand John's concept of inside out walls, this is one of the major benefits: you get to use the space between the studs for treatment. In other words: you don't need to build a separate sealed module to place over your inside-out wall, and in fact if you did that, you'd end up with a three-leaf wall, since hte back of your slat module would act as a third leaf... Check out the pics of Javier's build: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13032&start=111 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13032&start=133 - Stuart -
