I'm a little overwhelmed - people seem to know what they're doing on this site - unlike me.
I am in contract to buy a property that includes a 900 sq. foot space (about 81 sq. meters) where I plan to house a recording studio. I'd like to build a studio with a small lounge, a mixing room, a vocal booth and a large recording room. I'd like to spend $US10K or so. If it costs less - great! If it costs much more, I'll have to sit down and reconsider my budget...
The problem is that although I'm pretty good behind the mixing desk, I have no frikkin' idea about construction, acoustics, architecture, etc.
Can anybody advise me if there's a book I can buy (or any other resource), that can methodically and intuitively educate me about building a studio from scratch? If I had lots of time I'd just read this whole forum from beginning to end, but I don't have the time, and I doubt it's an efficient way to learn anyway.
I will not be doing the construction personally. I have a close friend who is a professional contractor who will do anything I need for a great price; but I need to be able to guide him on the materials, configurations and science or a recording studio.
Thank you,
Chony

This is a great reference point. look at the construction and design sections on the right hand site of the index.
Also there is a book that is available from amazon which i believe has been wrote by a member of this forum.
Do a search on amazon for Rod Gervais. There is a new addition (second) due, in the UK atleast on 27th sept, Its well worth the read from what i hear.
Adding to what Leon already said: the title of Rod's book is "Home Recording Studio: Build it Like the Pros". Very much worthwhile buying!
The other book I'd recommend is the "Bible" of acoustics: "Master Handbook of Acoustics", by F. Alton Everest.
With those you will get a solid foundation in acoustics and in basic studio design. They sure did help me!
