Hi all,
I have an old house with a smallish basement. The owner has given me the opportunity to gut it and build the rooms "right". By "right" he means isolation wise and acoustic treatment wise. I'm in the process of taking off walls and floors due to a flood that happened a while back. There was significant damage and rot.
My requirements for isolation are average to high. I will be recording funk bands, pop rock bands and salsa bands. No metal or really hard rock (Great music but I think I'd fail miserably at it :P . Basically lots of percussion. My neighbors are not that loud but I live by a street that is semi busy in the day. There's not alot of traffic and the foundation is about 5' 6" into the ground. The street is about 25 feet from my foundation. I also have four windows in this room as per the attached picture. There is also a weird "King Tut" tomb cutout in the foundation that I found when taking down the lathe and plaster walls (as per the picture).
I'm currently in the design and demolition phase. (Design because it's fun to dream, demolition because of the rot). The floor space I have to work with is shaped like an L because the other room is for the washer/dryer/water heater/sump/furnace. I have access to shutting off the furnace.
The Height of the room is 7'10" bare. The reason why I say approximately is because it is 7' 4" right now but I'm in the process of jack hammering the weak cement that's there and will be pouring new cement with rebar after.
The vocal booth might have to be a bit wider because there are pipes from the washroom above. I have to keep the ceiling simple on that section because I need to have access to the plumbing there. Since I will be doing mostly scratch vocals in that booth and nothing fancy it will be single wall construction.
I have attached a jpeg of the proposed layout. Tell me what you think!
Should the walls be angled or straight in such a small space? There's such a debate out there.
Is there anything else that I need to put here that I might be missing?
Thank you all in advance.

Hi,
Do a search on control room dimensions.
I don't want to sound too much like an ass, but some research might be in order. This forum is the perfect place to start.
I think you will want to rethink your control room design.

Steve
