Hi,
We just got a house with a huge porch with windows as walls on three sides (the last wall is made of concrete). This is the only place to make a studio in the house. I hope to make it decent with basstraps and other means. I use the ARC calibration system. My knowledge about acoustics is not extensive, but I do know this room is very difficult, so thats why i came here.
Budget: $500-1000, this can be stretched if the gains are significant.
Here are the dimensions:
control room:
3,2m wide
3,7m long
2,1m high where the speakers will be
2,9m high at the other end of the room, relative to the speakers
recording room:
3,2m wide
7,5m long
the floor is concrete with tiles. the roof is gypsum.
I already have the studio elements, but they are not setup:
Rogers monitors, floorstanding
Rogers surround speakers, small size on heavy speaker stands
Paradigm sub
KEF center speaker
Yamaha rx-v1900 amp
I am not sure what advice to ask for, so i will wait with further comments. Help very much appreciated.
Help turning a nightmare into a working studio

I'd suggest that you download the SketchUp program and use that to draw an accurate model of the space you have available, showing how the existing structure is built, and also your rough plan of what you intend to build inside it.
Also, please describe in detail what it is that you want to accomplish: is this going to be a listening room? A studio? For hobby or commercial use? How loud are you? How quite do you need to be? Neighbors? Type of music (genre)? What instruments? etc.
Finally, your budget is not going to take you very far. US$ 1000 is most likely not going to even get you much treatment for two rooms that size...

ok, thanks for the reply, stuart.
i have never used the sketchup program before. after some hours of using it, i made the sketch attached below. this is the control room. i think i must start with this room and do the recording room later.
this room is for composing, mixing and control room when recording. It is not commercial in the sense that we will have paying clients. But we will try to produce music that can be mastered elsewhere and then released. the room is in a house, we dont need the room to be quiet. Music is electronic, rock, jazz and classical. Usually there will be significant bass in the music. We only have one neighbor on that side, and they are separated by a garden.
should i draw the sofa into the room?
would the general idea include making huge basstraps on all the corners?
