Hi guys :-) Here are my plans for a new studio in Germany. What about it? good? bad? whats good? what's bad? The wall between the two rooms is fix, the entrance door (called "here you come in" is also fix... all the other parts are possible for (your) changes. I hope you'll give me some feedback and would be so kind to help me to establish my new "John Sayer styled" studio. :-)) All the best from Germany... yours Ronny! http://www.fresh-fox.com http://www.fresh-fox-records.de

Are you going to soffit mount your speakers?
I would like to do so... is it better or not? my speakers are Genelec 8040, see the attached pic.

Fox, Flush mounting is required if you need accuracy. 8) I would do things much differently with your layout. Are the dividing walls already there?? Basically your CR is a square. bad. then you slant your walls. You will have modal issues. I recommend that you orient the CR facing south in the drawing and use the entire 5m space for your length. Keep it rectangular except for acoustic treatment. TR to your left when mixing/monitoring. Entry to TR on left as well as viewing window. Enlarge the TR. Tell the band members waiting, to go outside to smoke.. ;) What are your TL requirements? what type of construction are you considering? Cheers, John
Hi John, thank you for your comments. Yes I will flush mount my speakers with the above mentioned kit from Genelec. You told to put the window to the TR to the left side. I am not really a friend of those windows on a side. I would like to have it in front of my position. The dividing walls are already there. The Tracking room is more a kind of vocal booth because we don't record any multi-member bands. It's more a kind of commercial electronic music with singers.
Well, it's a compromise. But you will have a much better control room and your mixes will easily translate. Too many times people choose what looks better over what works better. I remember when I was in high school - back in the 60's - I wore these really, really tight jeans because they looked cool. But, omg! it hurt! by the time i got home i was in serious pain... Actually a side-ways CR is very very common. I have designed and worked in both. No problems as long as the side window is not in the reflection zone. Very easy to get used to. Cheers, John
