Hey all, I feel like I am in front of a big crowd of people trying to give a good speech right now (nervous). I have followed this forum for about 6 months now and constantly see people making incorrect post. I hope I have it figured out by posting my studio design here. You will have to forgive me for I am not good at Sketchup and my designs are remedial. This is a basic 2D version of my room, which is 12ft 2inches long by 9ft 4inches wide. Ceiling height is 7ft 11inches. Everything on the structure is scaled correctly. The desk, sofa, and panels are just eyeballed and will most likely have to be exact in the final sketch. I need help figuring out how I can get the best sounding room with acoustic paneling as angling the walls will drastically cut down space in the already small room. Maybe it is possible to angle the wall or even sneak in a vocal booth. I just need some advice. So here it is!!
Thanks
Lemar

Hi Lemar, and welcome! It's always nice when someone does their homework and does everything right in their first post!!! :yahoo:
Nice layout, too. The only comment I can think of is that you might need absorption in the front wall behind the speakers, and it looks like the panels on the first reflection points (side walls) might need to go a bit further forward, but that might just be due to the view angle. You'll probably also need more bass trapping than what you show: maybe across the wall/ceiling corner above the door? Looks like you have space up there. And perhaps the wall/ceiling corners of the side walls too.
I wouldn't bother splaying the walls, if you are concerned about space. Your room ratio isn't fantastic, but it also isn't bad: 1 : 1.17 : 1.53. It's reasonably close to Louden's 5th best ration (according to Bob Gold's calculator), and the modal distribution is reasonable. You might be able to improve on it, but it all depends on which walls you can move, how you plan to build, etc.
Good start! :)

+1 to what Stuart said.
Lemar,
Go here http://www.jhbrandt.net/pubs.html and get my First Reflection Calculator. It will give you exact placement for your side & ceiling panels. -- More trapping too. Don't forget the wall/ceiling corners. 8)
