Hello to every1 in this forum. First off I would like to say that forum is really a great resource for any and every1 tryin to get information on studio acoustics, design and construction. I have spent everyday for the last month or so digging and searching through this site and taking in all the great info that is available here. So I would like to say thanks to John and evey1 else that makes this forum the sucess it is. Now...with that aside...lets get down to the matter at hand. After a couple tutorials on sketchup and trial and error ive come up with this.

This studio will be mainly used for mixing audio for commercials (both radio and tv), voice overs, ADR, etc. Also it will be used to record single instrument performances by guitarists, violinists, saxaphonists seeing as the booth isnt that big. I am flirting with the idea of having panel absorbers in the booth that can b removed if a more live sound is needed for example with an instrument performance of some sort or mounted for a less live feel as needed for a VO. Will b working in stereo but would like to have the ability to upgrade to 5.1 in future if need be, so i would like to take that into consideration in the design. Not sure if the speakers will remain freestanding as in this initial design or if they would b soffit mounted. Basically I would like to get some feedback/criticism on this design and I would love to hear any suggestions from the very knowledgable ppl in this forum that would make the design better. thanx
well done - I don't see any obvious problems. what's happening with the ceiling?
You need to build a wall (shown in red) coupled to the outer leaf in order to complete the 2 leaf system. (that means, double doors for CR and RR) :P

It's not essential javier - the outer white wall is the second leaf for each room.
Right, assuming he is gonna seal the entry door properly tho
Thank you very much guys, I really appreciate your input and advice. Ok...so currently the ceiling is 9 ft high. I would like to splay it, but I would need to speak to the facilities manager of the building to see if it is possible. Splaying by 6 degrees will take the back of the CR to almost 11'. If splaying is not an option for me then i will be adding a ceiling cloud at the first reflecion points. 1. How would I need to treat the door of the outer leaf to complete the 2 leaf system? 2. I am having trouble with the roof in sketchup. I am trying to draw the frames of the CR and Recording booth and Sketchup does what its supposed to do by filling in the centre of a closed shape, essentially giving me a second floor. How do I get away from this?

3. Also I would like to have a producers couch in the rear of the CR, should I be considering putting broadband absorbers at the first reflection points there as well? 4. Bass Hanger traps will be placed in the corners of the CR. Should they also be placed in the cavity to the left of the CR as well as the cavity in the Recording booth? bless

The ceiling should be splayed 12 degrees, not 6. You do six on the walls because you have one wall on each side: 2 x 6 = 12: So unless your floor is already angled at 6 degrees (!) then the ceiling needs to be 12, at least. But it's more complicated than that: those angels are for certain purposes, that may or may not be your case.

If you don't actually have two leaves (just one very massive leaf, for example), then maybe a Rod Gervais "Superdoor" might help. - Stuart -
Thanx for the reply soundman. 1. In terms of the ceiling, i dont think splaying 12 degrees is an option for me so I will have to build some ceiling clouds 2. Is there a thread on this site pointing to the design of Rod's Superdoor? I cant seem to find any. 3. A flat ceiling works fine too, and has the advantage of giving you more height.

You'll have to buy his book! :) http://www.amazon.com/Home-Recording-St ... 498&sr=8-1 - Stuart -
