Hi all,
I am looking at the details for my fresh air plans, which involve building external silencer boxes mounted to the outside of my studio. Inside one of the boxes I am installing a Fantech FG6 fan to bring in the fresh air. However I am concerned that sucking in all that "los angeles fresh air" is going to also bring in a large amount of dust and other non-desirables (bugs).
I saw on the forum (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4384) a link to the Ultimate Vent, which has a washable filter built in. However I am concerned about putting a strain on the Fantech fan trying to bring in fresh air.
Is this Ultimate Vent filter going to cause problems? If so, does anyone have suggestions on how I can keep my silencer boxes and studio free of dust and critters?
Thanks!
EDIT: Here is the URL to the Ulitmate Vent http://www.ultivent.com
Filtered Fresh Air Vent - bad idea?

The IMC requirements for fresh air intakes do not allow filters on these systems...........
The requirement is for a screen to be installed at the inlet - no less than 1/4" openings.
A filter can clog and stop the free movement of air - which in the case of a sealed room like a studio would be a very bad thing.
The link you provided is a filtering system for an outside feed to a boiler room - worse case the boiler stops running or does not run properly - which would key the owners to the fact that there was an issue.......... nothing to let them know a problem exists in the case of a fresh air system.
I would recommend against it.........
I would also recommend that you place the fan outside of your iso-box............ you will gain isolation if you do - I do not understand the upside to placing it in that location.
Thank you so much, Rod. That makes sense. The only reason I was putting the fan inside the silencer box was to protect the fan from the weather. I do see your point though. Perhaps I'll build another small "fan box" on the outside of the silencer?
