Hi folks.
If I played music @ 90dB, and transmission loss of wall was 10dB at a given frequency, would Music played @ 105dB also be reduced by the same 10dB, or would it be less ?
Just curious as I know TL figures get thrown around alot. In fact, the reason this question popped into my head is that I brought some ear-plugs that specify reductions of various frequencies, but I thought, surely it depends on how loud the source is to begin with ?

dB reduction at different volumes.

Nope - the TL value of a wall is constant - if it will stop 10 dB at a particular frequency - then at 40 dB - 30 will travel through the wall - and at 110 dB 70 will travel through the wall.
Nothing changes due to volume - the only changes are due to frequency - in other words - you may have a TL value of 30 db @ 1 frequency and 60 Db @ another - but once the assembly is constructed - those values do not change unless there is a physical change to the assembly itself.
I hope this helped.
