Hi, Thanks for reading this. I have been reading and reading and reading about how to successfully build a "sound proof" booth. I want to build a booth (6 x 6 would be great, but it could be other shapes for better noise reduction if necessary) for hearing tests, which is what I do for a living. The space where the booth will be: a large auditorium like area with ambient sounds like a radio, conversation, etc. I have measured the ambient noises with a sound level meter: about constant level of 60 db - maxed at 70 db). The auditorium is tiled. The booth must be wheelchair accessible: 36 inch door with a turning radius of 30" inside the booth (so a full circle with diameter of 60" must be clear in the booth). I will build a ramp to get into the booth. I also would like to have a window on the door and maybe on another wall. The major dilemma is portability... I need to build something that can be taken apart once and assembled once. To start, what are your recommendations for wall design? Can I potentially use two layers of MDF as a wall panel? I'd like to achieve STC 50 if possible. Thanks again.
There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post (click here). Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will most likely not reply if you don't do what is written in that post. Many others who are very helpful, will most likely not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes. - Stuart -
